SideShot + GoPro Backbone Feedback?

For something that cost $1250 I would do some research first. You bought it and then come ask us. Not many of us would spend $1250 on it. But I do have the side shot phone mount that was $199. It work and recorded what I wanted. The only problem is, sometimes it's hard to focus on the crosshair. Sometimes you dont even see the crosshair. Other times it will show up burry. Well good luck with your investment. From what I heard people saying is it's not play and play. You have to fine tune it to get it to focus just right.

I don't even know what you bothered with that. I'm aware of what the Backbone version of the Hero 7 is and the quality it's capable of producing, the cost is what it is - I value my time and haven't exactly enjoyed using the $199 for long range recording. Asking those that have used this setup for feedback, not much out there beyond ads / influencer marketing.

Hey Bud, hopefully I can prepare you for some possible headaches. Then again maybe you are already aware of how the GoPro 7 compiles it’s data with some of its recording options. Im talking about .H265 (HEVC) codex. Do yourself some research on that platform as it is a better compression. That being said..... You may need an updated computer or newer phone to handle it’s playback. It requires some computer horsepower to playback smooth, otherwise you will get choppy playback.

P.s. With a little bit of hassle you should be able convert it to a playable format.

Best of luck,

T.J.

I bought the Tactacam setup at 1/2 the cost, and I am very happy with it.

H.265 is great! No worries, I was big into 3D animation (Cinema 4D) and had a GPU rendering cluster running up until a few years ago, that doubled as a GPU hash cracker. Now I just run a humble headless 2018 Mac Pro and a maxed out mid-2019 MBA. I can run Premier / Final Cut / et al on my notebook and farm out rendering on my network to the tower. If that bogs down, I can always spin up some GPU-optimized compute resources programmatically in AWS to do the heavy lifting :p

The GoPro 7 can record very good video you just need to adjust the unit

so you have a good focus its not super easy but with a little effort you will

get it , the big thing is the side focus on your scope it need to be focused

perfectly for ever thing you film with the GoPro , marking your side wheel

with yardage marks will be the key to getting clear video footage.

Best of luck with your new camera, get the cross hairs in focus and make

sure that the side wheel is in focus and show us some good looking footage.

I'm looking forward to the manual focus capabilities! I probably had more expectations than I should have with the iPhone (XS Max) setup having compared photo and video quality against previous iPhone generations, the camera / processors might be better than the predecessors- but the reality is that they're ruined in software for application such as this.

There isn't a ton of info out there, but this combo that I ordered sounds promising. If I had the time I probably would have modded one myself, but the economics work out for the better buying one ready to shoot. If it turns into a nightmare, then I'll be officially pissed 💥

This is great that you got the reticle to focus easily , it took me like 3 hours.

There is one thing that I will suggest and thats to set the ISO setting as low

as you can get it this will give you a much less grainy video .

You need to tune settings for the lighting conditions (just as with any camera). The footage quality hinges tremendously on the lighting.
