Side Wheel for the Athlon Talos

I don't know about you guys but the side parallax knob on my two Athlon Talos 4-14x44 scope are very hard to turn. I can't find any side wheel add on to make adjustment easier. I remember someone saying they used a UTG side wheel and it worked for them. I have some UTG scopes and like using the smaller 60mm diameter side wheel as sometimes the UTG scopes have stiff side parallax wheels too. This can be a problem in the field hunting when you have your gun shouldered and trying to focus your scope with one hand. Anyway the UTG side wheel is made to fit into the the indents on the side parallax knob and then the two set screw push the interior side wheel rubber ring tight to hold. This arrangement won't work with the very tight side parallax knobs on my Talos scopes. I ended up replacing the two shorter metric set screws with two longer ones about 1/2" long. These go all the way through the rubber ring and engage the side knob. This solution has seemed to work. The video shows what I did and although I make a few mistakes on words spoke the just of what I did comes across. Bill

I have one of Scope-Werks wheels (snail) on my Athlon Argos; it works like a champ. Just remember, you will have to run to a range and put calibration marks on it.

Hey Bill,

Can you provide an update on how well this UTG Side Wheel has held up on your Athlon Talos scope since you posted this?

Okay just checked out both scope wheels and they are holding well. The thing with only two opposing screws there can be a little side wiggle to the wheel. Not a big problem as long as your turning the wheel straight forward. To bad there is not enough metal to tap for a third screw which would really cinch it up real tight. At least this is a cheap alternative to the Scope Werks wheel plus I wanted a smaller diameter wheel anyway. BILL

I've been using the UTG side wheel on the Talos . I don't use the set screws , just push it on . No problems falling off . The only down fall is the UTG is laid out opposite of the Athlon , so you have to adjust while looking through the scope unless you want to tape the wheel and remark the yardage . I found if you use the set screws it makes the wheel wooble on the parallax turret .
