Side shot cam solution for Gopro Hero 8

Based on the information I have received and the research I’ve done, without having gotten my 7 up and running yet, I do not believe that the 8 is a viable solution at all. The only way that the other models were an option, is because you were able to change out the lens to make them work. The 8 has a fixed lens and cannot be changed, so I do not think it is a viable option. GoPro heard the uproar from users and that is why they went back to a replaceable lens on the 9.

The 9 is larger, so I am pretty positive that they don’t fit in the current 5,6,7 GoPro Sideshot mount. I don’t know about other systems, or if anyone has developed an attachment yet like Orion and others did for their Fireflies.

In talking with Haji, he suggested the 7 Black was the way to go, so I’m just waiting for all the parts to arrive.

I think if there are lens available that fits the 9 and would work for a scope, you can make the 9 work with a 9 case. You just need to be able to center the camera and mount it to the sideshot. You have options,

but I think with the 8 though, it would have to have the case broken where the lens is, then you still have to find a lens that would work for this application and harder to return to a working everyday 8 again. basically can't go back, once you crack it open

If you have a GoPro 8 or a GoPro 9, there is a solution. Just treat the GP8 or GP9 just like the GP7,6,5,4,3, or 2 and modify a waterproof case as the fixture to interface the camera to the SideShot Frame.

So you will end up with a configuration like this

Just keep in mind you will need to swap out the fisheye lens on the GP9

From what i reseached Gopro cams are used because they are easily available. But they do not focus well up close and need to be modified to do so. The wide angle can be used but must be modified post production to fill screen. There is a lot to learn when using the gopro so do your research before you go down this rabbit hole. Once you do it it does not seem so bad but it is not cheap and you will run into mistakes ($$$) if you don't do your research.

Orion's scope cam is a good alternative but make sure you have your game plan and research that as well.
