I take my 3 year old 110+ pound Saint Bernard black lab mix hunting with me when I’m going for anything but whitetail. I’m very fortunate and get to take her everywhere including work. The first time I took her into the woods she ran around sniffing everything and not understanding why we were there until the first squirrel fell from the tree. She then realized I was looking up and that’s where most of the squirrels come from and has watched me ever since. She taught herself what to do. When she hears the shot she heads to where the gun was pointing and figures it out from there. She’ll bring our quarry back to me but not quite all the way. She’ll stop about three feet short, sit, and put it on the ground and look at me like she’s asking if she can keep this one. She gets to keep the collared doves and she gets plenty of squirrel jerky, deer chunks and hearts for her efforts and can hear the reward bag open from a mile away. Deer season ending today so the next six weekends will include her with me in the woods chasing everything in season. She never complains and never wants to go home early. Couldn’t ask for a better hunting buddy even though she keeps my truck dirty.
. I know for a fact these are the best hunting buddies a dad could ever have. I love them and enjoy time with them so much, more than anything!
