Should you sort pellets? (the final answer)

If you miss winning by 1 or 2 points then it is needed. Otherwise waste of time, need to improve shooting first.

You should always try to improve your shooting, but IMO that's no excuse not to ensure you have the most accurate rig possible.

Especially if you're hunting or competing.

Just my opinion, of course...but the efficacy of sorting is not in question.

lol .. if i was into competition maybe .. i wont even buy expensive pellets most of the time, i get well over 90% 1 shot stops with 6$ per tin premeirs without thinking about it ..

There's nothing wrong with that, man.

My point here is that sorting pellets is NOT a useless endeavor.

If you have the need and the time, it WILL affect your performance.

In my experience sorting is a complete waste of time for 50 yards or less, unless  it's for a competitive shoot, or testing the AG or pellets, from a mechanical rest.
The entire small group thing is about removing any & all variables.
If just pesting or plinking I say shoot em all. Especially at the current prices. Which has me putting more time in with my bows and selling off a few airguns.
Good video Donnie. You're a like-able fellow.

Thanks, James!

I don't mean to tell anyone that you cannot have fun with an airgun, or even do well with an airgun without sorting pellets.

My point is that it DOES make a difference.

Whether or not it's worth your time is up to you...but the difference is there.

Years ago when I was into powder burning rifles, I did a lot of reading on the accuracy of bullets and what made them more or less accurate. I had a book written by P.O. Ackley, who spent years experimenting . He came to the conclusion that the “tail” of the bullet was where the accuracy came from. Many times we went to the range and cut the nose at different angles and then deformed the tail. Almost all of our shots that went off target was from the deformed tail. I only mention this because it seems that is the same conclusion you have come up with. Granted, we were also trying to shoot groups that were very small, not plinking or hunting. I have a group that I shot with a 7mag that Mr Nosler measured and said it was good enough that he was going to send it to his advertising dept. in case they wanted to use it. Not patting myself on the back but just making a point about accuracy and the means that we will go to to get it. Several years I would shoot 15000+ in my efforts. Thank God I am over that.
Great video.

keep the video's coming DONNIE ,maybe next time you can show the accuracy also,i don't weigh or size my pellets ,i would if i was a hunter or competed ,i do go through them and take 5 minutes to remove the deformed bent ones they can be shot from my GAMO HORNET if not to bad,{which is a bad ass little break barrel for $59} otherwise just toss em i would rather discard than have a mag jam THANKS DONNIE PAT4S

I visually sort my pellets into two groups. One group is near perfect or better and everything else goes into the plinking tin. I use the best pellets for sighting in, fine tuning and hunting. I don’t competitively shoot or I would use them for that as well and would probably be even pickier on what I placed in my “grade A” tins.

That's a pretty good system.
