Hi,

Recently I went on a scope buying spree and long story short I have ended up with an Athlon Ares BTR gen2 2.5-15x50 , waiting for an Alpha6 2.5-15 and also purchased a month ago the new Hawke Sidewinder 30 FFP in 4-16x50. 

The Ares is sitting on my new Hatsan Factor, the alpha 6 is probably going go on my 22lr, and the Hawke is the one I am having second thoughts. Not on the glass or the build quality but it was meant to go on top of a rifle that I had to cancel buying for the time being due to unexpected expenses. 

I still want to keep the Hawke but I wonder if I have too many scopes on that magnification range and if I should have bought the 6-24x56 instead. It will eventually go on a pcp rifle that I want to do some hunting and benchrest out to 200 yards. 

Will the 4-16 Hawke.serve me right or should I try and return it for it's larger sibling?

Only reason I bought the a6 is because you spoke so highly of it but it is stuck in transit ( ordered Feb18th from ebay). That being said , I am blown away from both the Atlon Ares gen2 as well as the new Hawke Sidewinder which has low dispersion crown glass and ultra wide field of view.

My issue is not the optical quality my issue is if I am going to need more power for those longer shots. I know the a6 is not gonna cut it due to being a SFP and I want to be able to play with the different magnifications without having to do math in my head for where to hold. That being said, I think the a6 if it is everything you say it is, will be fine on my 10/22 where I keep my shots within 75 yards and don't have to worry about bullet drop. 

Will I need more than 16 power for a chipmunk at 150 yards? Here is my question I guess. Cause if not then I can keep my 4-16 Hawke if not then I will probably need to return it. I have never hunted before at those distances with an air rifle since I always had springers but now that I got into pcp rifles it is like a whole new world of possibilities is ahead and I know very little.

100+ yards Chipmunk need at least 27x.

I can only recommemd the Frontier H7 and A6 because if you MUST BUY CHINESE because I'm totally into clarity.

I have bought the Sidewinder 30 recently it's a step up compared to the crappy old Sidewinder 30s but the A6 is clearer at max power.

Read the forums search under Hawke if you buy anything less than a Frontier.

Many will NEVER again buy Hawke brand after their own experience. 

I really like my Frontiers. Are they worth 4x to 5x the A6? NO IMHO.

IF YOU ARE FORCED TO BUY CHINESE and specifically HAWKE then buy this one!

Otherwise the MIDWAYUSA $449 ($1199 REGULAR PRICE) JAPAN MADE Crimson Trace 3 Series FFP 4-20x beats them all in clarity but only 20x won't do well for 150 yard chipmunk shots..

I recently bought a Gen1 version Japan made Cronus 4.5-29x56 and it's unreal clear.

Man sorry you're not a SFP guy because the $2700 Trijicon is only $1600 and change.

I'd buy it from you if you MAKE OFFER 10% less than advertised if you aren't happy with it. I'm open to buying up to 4 for ANYONE buying them from this place try to offer 10% less first. I'll pay what they charged for the scope.

I won't offer to buy the Athlon Cronus if you pay MAP price. It's got a 25 yard focus however I'm open to buy another Gen1 version for $900 I recently paid.

I spotted some pissed off chipmunks around 180y out with a March 3-24x52 on ~20x. Had it on a Crown that was dialed for shooting 24gr VKs at 950, but they were always ~500ms faster than the projectiles at that range 😭

Of course you can see at 180 yards at 20x that's a MARCH! IDK if this guy really wanna pay $2700 to $2950 for that.

I paid $1200 shipped for my last "preowned" ($2700 non illuminated) March-F 4-24x52.almost two months ago from a member from this AGN forum classifieds. I paid way more for my OTHER illuminated 4-24x52 version and my 10-60x52.

They don't got lifetime warranty and aren't Really worth their selling price (NEW) IMHO that's why I dont push them even if I'm crazy enough to buy them myself.

As we get older we need better optics!

My FIRST MARCH SCOPE was like BAM!!!

I'd send back the Hawke and wait for the Athlon Helos G2 6-24x50 and get the APRS6 reticle. WHY??? Because my new Helos G2 2-12x42 is amazingly impressive! I used it for 4 hours yesterday and EVERYTHING about the scope is EVERYTHING, and MORE than it should be for the price!!!! So 11 hours total using this and every time I'm still just as happy as before. By now I would have found any faults but there are none.

If a guy that is a "scope snob" like me (as far as picky about quality and feature sets) can LOVE a scope like this in the sub $500 MAP range, then practically anyone is going to love the aforementioned 6-24!

However that G2 Cronus is THE scope to beat in it's price range. It's just tooooo good! BTW you can focus on 10X at 15Y which is pretty cool and something I didn't think it would do until I tried it. 

Sorry if I'm being annoying but Athlon really got their 💪 together for the 2021 products I've bought so far! I mean they could not have done a better job, seriously!

I've had every generation of Cronus and used a couple regular Helos scopes, but these G2's are MUCH better!

YoDoyle, you were supposed to buy the G2 Cronus??!! C'mon man
