shotgun and squirrels

First shot will definitely kill a squirrel. The problem is the noise will scare the others and you won't see any action for at least an hour. Years ago I started hunting squirrels with a .410 in the woods and that was my experience. The same goes for a .22LR. It's the reason I only use airguns now, and my hunting buddy (who scored on 2 squirrels this morning eith his marauder) converted in the middle of the season last year.

Silence is golden when squirrel hunting.

I'm shooting from 25 yards. I'm out with the .410 at dawn tomorrow so we'll see. On 30th I was disturbed by about 20 cattle slobbering over my car and gave up early.. I had folded back the wing mirrors but the occasional metallic sound prompted me to break cover to check what was going on. They had nudged the windscreen wipers but I couldn't move the cattle. The Farm Manager had the cattle moved but when I went to feed round yesterday there were some more mature cattle in the field intent on couching down and cudding. They showed no interest in my car, unlike the others who were much younger and inquisitive.

I did shoot one squirrel as it came down the tree trunk, before the cattle started slobbering.
