short afternoon hunt pays off......

One of those off days that have you running errands that are necessary, but completely unwelcome and taking up precious time from the things you want to be doing. That was the way my day started out today. But I'm not one to be totally deterred from my goals that I have set for myself when I'm not at work. So....this afternoon I was finally able to grab my 34 and some pellets and hit the woods for a short afternoon hunt. I had just walked to one of the spots that I like to hunt and stopped at a big oak that I have all the leaves cleared from around the trunk so I can walk around 360 and not make any noise. About 30 minutes in....spot one coming down a tree about 20 yards. Took a head shot, and he flipped right on over and hit the ground. I walked over to collect him and spotted another one on the ground running away from me. As soon as he stopped, I was able to drop to a knee and popped him from the kneeling position. I gathered him up and had to go. Still got home in time to fix my daughters flat tire before it got dark, clean the squirrels, put them in the freezer and settle down to a nice tall beer. Now the wife's home...

Very nice, good shooting...

So,, now that the wife's home its time to get her to make you samwich then go out for some coyote/hog nite hunting... jk, lol

Sounds like you got it all done and capped it off with a beer. Im jealous. Nice shooting. I love my 34. What pellet do you use?

crittahitta,

I've tried quite a few pellets and still have some unopened tins that I've ordered to test later. But, believe it or not the pellet that I have had the best results with so far are the Crossman Premier Hollow Point 14.3 grain. They group extremely well with my 34 and I kill the snot out of squirrels with it without any problems. They have been really effective. And I'm absolutely fine with that because I can buy them at my local Wal-Mart for about $7.00 or so for a 500 ct tin.

Thanks.......TR

Nice story and pics! I'm lucky to live and work on some acreage that holds lots of rabbits and quail-makes getting any work done a challenge sometimes,LOL!

John,

If I worked/lived in a place like that, I'd be about worthless when it came to the work part......looks like a target rich environment!

Thanks for the compliment.
