8 years? What a noob, I've been playing and enjoying FPS games for at least 20 years now :)

I suppose those are useful to a point where you can simulate and play around with basic principles of ballistic (depends on the quality of engine behind each particular game).

What I personally have found usefull, practical and challenging in a real life for improvement of your shooting skills overall (hitting the point you intend to hit) are "three positions" (standing off hand, kneeling off hand, prone off hand) with an open dioptric sights. There you have to deal with and tame four beasts that live inside you - stance, aiming, breathing, trigger pull. The human brain is able to deal with only two of those simultaniously, so here comes the challenge, choosing the compromises and the way to real improvement :)

I have to admit that I have played FPS games since I was 10, so yeah that would put me at 8 years of experience! The list has stuff like almost every call of duty including black ops3, most of the battlefields except hardline, and all of the halo games, there have also been a few off brand games as well. The game that I found that has the most realistic physics is called ARMA Unfortunately it's only for PC. But anyone else who has played will know how advanced the ballistics engines are.

In my opinion yes shooting simulations and video games can make you a better shooter and make your reflexes quicker. Other people that have grown up might say that there is no replacement for plain old practice but if that is their belief, then don't try and fix what ain't broke.

"<font><font>Ivre</font></font>"<font><font>8 années?

Yes Ivre ....you have a lot experience with video games ....and if you have a good example of close games in the target field for the community..they are welcome !!!
i have enjoyed your vision on this subject...very good !
thank you friend

Planetside 2 has a very decent ballistic engine too. Each gun has unique charasteristics (projectile velocity, recoil, spread, etc.) and they are actually taken into account by the game engine. Along with the tactical aspect and the fact that it is a real massive multiplayer in a huge and completely open world (battles are fought between teams of hundreds of players simultaniously) now its may favorite game. Actuallly, the only one I still play... :)
