Shipping

I had the same experience shipping to Hawaii. Cost was 180$ for a box the size of an impact case.

As that's not bad enough I got a email from ups saying I messed up on the weight.

I measured the box and added a couple inches on each dimension so they couldn't say anything.

Well when I called they said that size box can hold up to 60 pounds so we charge for the weight not the size.

So I said how does that makes sense? I gave the exact weight of the box! They said yes, but the size of the box allows more weight.

So I say, I thought you just you charge by weight not size? And well as you can tell they just talked circles.

Worst part is they just charged my debit card without permission from me. That's when things got a little heated between us. Try to charge 280 bucks for shipping! No today lol

Needless to say they refunded me the money. But they also tried the same on a scope I shipped for 20 bucks they ended up charging 80 dollars for shipping on a scope I sold for 100 bucks.

Moral of the story is... shipping sucks🤯

As some of my mainland friends tell me, it’s the cost of living in Paradise.... ugh! Hard to swallow especially when the cost of a product is cheaper than the shipping costs! I run into it all the time in business. That’s why I try to do business with companies that are willing to ship USPS. Unfortunately A LOT of campanies still don’t.

This year I had to be creative to take advantage of some of the Black Friday Sales. When offered free shipping, I had them send my order to my son on the mainland. It’s a hassle but he’s willing to reship through USPS.

After many years of buying and shipping stuff I’ve gotten used to the shipping costs (more like numb) BUT what really gets under my skin is when free shipping is offered ONLY to the Continental US. The disclaimer, Alaska and Hawaii not included. There’s not even an option for a discounted shipping price! Sadly we have no choice and deal with it.... Cost of living in Paradise I guess.

HOWEVER, I want to add a BIG MAHALO to all the sellers on the Classifieds that are willing to ship to Hawaii!

Aloha

I feel your pain. I tried to buy some pellets and a mag for my bantam over the black Friday sales and it was 60.00 to ship 5 tins and a mag and this was usps priority flat rate. This is what I was told shipping would be, go figure. Anyways I called another place (utah airguns) Mike shipped it usps priority for 19.00 a lot more reasonable.

Aloha,

Yes there is a business rate, and it's not hard to get.

While I've only used it twice a year ago I went online and messed up an application for a "business" account - NO fee/charge- where by I had to drop off at a FedEx depot center and get the good rate. The nice Lady at FedEx fixed whatever was needed and my account was good to go. Secnond time I used that account I recalled no information but just wandered in CC in hand ( cash not allowed anymore) and ship at the preferred rate.

U.S.P.S. will let you set up a free discounted account also and deliver your shipping box's to your home, your must print labels ( machine costs $ ) and postage tied to a CC but you never have to leave home and esp. if say shipping a lot of Priority Flat rate is fairly easy & low cost, though recently everything did go up.

Now I'll only use FedEx for large & heavy and go to the P.O. for Priority Flat Rate.

Shipping does indeed bite into things. I have a number of well functioning low budget rigs just not worth shipping these days.

For you who ship USPS, do you completely de-gas the gun? I was looking at their policy for compressed gas and it seemed like I would have to completely degas. Also, did you have to declare it was a gun? When I use UPS, they use “pellet launcher” in the description to avoid the word gun.

just shipped a gun from Oregon to Louisiana and didn't degas it, and all the PCPs I've bought and shipped to me have been around 1/2 to 2/3 full. You can schedule a pick up with UPS online, label it sporting goods or whatever, and print out your own labels. UPS swings by to pick it up and you're done. shipping cost was 100 bucks including 2K of declared value.

a note on declared value-If your item is damaged in shipping, UPS and probably most other shippers will do all they can to deny your claim by claiming insufficient packaging. the way around this is to pad your item extremely well and then some or have UPS package your item which adds to the cost of shipping but then there's the issue of their packaging a gun or not wanting to...

It's also always a good idea to write in marker the to and from address on the box because sometimes shipping labels get torn off.

A shipping question I've always had so I'll ask here. Is it worth paying for insurance since you have to be able to prove what was in the package that you shipped? If so how could you prove it? Video the entire time from the moment you put your expensive airgun in the box and handed it over at the counter?

I have always paid the few extra bucks for insurance anyway since I figure it will (maybe) keep the driver from attempting a 40 yard field goal over the fence with my gun lol Just always wondered if I'm wasting my money....

If I remember correctly you have to take the damaged item and packaging to a local UPS facility if you file a damage claim or they send a rep out to inspect everything.

I woukd always insure high dollar items otherwise you’re screwed if it gets damaged. As I mentioned above though, you have to package it exceptionally well and ultimately the carrier will determine if it was sufficiently protected.

Just shipped a Crown from Idaho to California. FedEx ground. home delivery signature required. 2K insurance. 69.88 Same packaging that it came from AOA in. Looking at the receipts kind of surprised me. Listed at 33.30 Lbs. First gun I have ever shipped other then shipping my Boss back to earnest. sylvan

That is nowhere near any quote I have ever gotten. That is fantastic.
