Selling in the classified ads

The most effective way to sell your gear is to provide a detailed description, several pictures including close-ups, a reasonable price and if you are open to any trades. I'm going to be honest, if you don't post a desired price and ask for a reasonable offer, I'm going to provide you with the price I want to pay and it's going to be low.

For me personally; if you don't post pictures I will pass right by your ad - I will not initiate contact to get pics. I will also avoid any sellers ad that has "attitude" (I don't know how to describe it better). It is an ad that after reading I feel as if the seller might be difficult or unpleasant to deal with.

I'm with you, Rodeo!

There is one frequent poster to the classifieds who posts comments in his ads that indicate he feels he is doing us a favor for even offering his over-priced pups for sale. SMH.😣

Or "Don't ask me......". If someone is interested in purchasing your item and they have a question that pertains to that item, is it not a valid question?

The whole "don't waste my time" vibe when they didn't include important info. I backed out of an agreement to buy because the sellers said his gun was tuned and I asked about specific performance. He said "look it up online." So I said never mind, I will get it somewhere else.

My only complaint is when the seller leaves a form of best contact, and leaves an email and a cell phone, is that he or she should check both of those first before closing the deal, as timeline rules.

I lost out on a deal because I chose to be courteous and not call his cell phone at 2am, but instead, sent him an email saying I’m interested, and also saying I am probably the first to call on his item being sold.

Well, he didn’t check his email but instead only his phone at 9am, and he sold it to the one who called.

I don't buy much on the classifieds, but the few times I did, Rangur1 has been the best to deal with.

I've had many transactions (mostly buying) and I've only had one minor issue. The seller assured me that he would put insurance on the item but he didn't. It arrived okay, but if the postal service had lost or damaged the item I probably would have been out of $1200, because I paid by PayPal FF since the seller had many sales and good feedback.

Yeah, it's hard to cover all the variables on both sides. For instance, I've bought and sold here many times, but I've never been left feedback. I've asked for it. Even after leaving it once first. Then I just stopped leaving until I got...and that meant I stopped leaving it period. Now I just mention key posters I've done biz with as references. Doesn't mean I'm not solid. I'm as solid as they come..

Then there's people you PM on either side that don't respond back. Hey, you're not interested in buying or you're selling to someone else, fine. I'm a big boy. How about you be one, too, and say so? Especially when you see they've had activity since your last contact with them, but they don't mark their item sold or don't get back to you about your sell offer.

To BD's first post, I don't say, in the few FS ads I post, OBO. In this day I figure that's assumed by everyone when "firm" isn't written. As is we can all sell or not sell to whomever we like. I think that everyone WANTS a screaming deal, but most of us expect a fair deal, no? Many of us are trying to get out what we've put into something we've purchased used ourselves, so that's where pricing, value, and deals get a bit gray I think. As in what's a good price for someone looking expressly for something may seem out of line to someone else that is looking for maybe that AG, but in a different config.

I've had the same thing Bigragu has had happen to me. Try not to text or call late at night only to lose out as the seller doesn't honor 1st contact because they don't check for 1st contact. That really stinks when you've been hawking for an item, it comes up, you think you must be 1st, but no dice.

Eh, really just a microcosm of the world at large. I just wish it was always guys I know that stick to the system that had the stuff I want when I want it. But then I can wish in my one hand, and....🙄...all day long, now can't I 🙃

What I was referring to is when the seller don't list any price in the ad. If they post something like "taking offers or send me your offer." If the seller has a price and not say it's firm - I will ask if it's negotiable or what's the least you will take.

My bad for the misleading reference, BD. I did not mean to infer you were just jumping to lowballing. I know you're one of the good seeds. I was really just trying to be clear about my posts and the lack of usually saying OBO or the like in them. Sorry if I made the muddy by way of my reference.
