Self Healing Rubber

rittahittaIf your using them for your backstop aren't they doing exactly what you want now? Im confused.
Not really. You don't want them to go through the target, bounce out, and make another hole in the target on the way out.

After using this backstop for over 6 months there's a large hole from the pellets and I'd like to put a piece of rubber over it to staple my target to. I could use duct seal to fill the void but rather go with the rubber. Hope this clarifies what I'm trying to do.

Dumpster dive?
Used shrink wrap, like used on pallets full of boxes.
I , think (?) it would work well for what you want.
A feed sack stuffed full will stop most anything - a 9mm or a bolt from a 175lb crossbow and it wont harn the arrow.

Only issue would be , when using it nin a sack when you get a bit of a hole in one spot you just throw it on the ground & stomp on it to even it back out.

Hang a piece of carpet behind your target paper. The pellet will pass through it. If it does bounce back, it should have lost enough energy that it will bounce off the backside of the carpet and fall.
Or, fill it with rubber mulch. Since it's already on wheels the weight shouldn't be as big of a concern. You can also knock the depth of the box down to about 8" (even less if your only shooting 177).

Perry, I know you're shooting the .25 PCPs through it with good results. Have you tried a .177 springer on it and if so, does it go through the tile ?

I'm actually looking for something that will allow the pellet to go through and the solid wood block stops it.
A .177 shot at about 900fps out of a S510. It does pass through at 50 yards. I can do a test out of my TX200 here in a few days.

Gotta go with the rubber mulch from old tires. I'm told (haven't validated on my own) that a box 6 inches deep, filled with the rubber mulch will stop a .223. I've used the mulch for my .22 Marauder and get one or two inches penetration, so a 6 inch box is really overkill. Put your box together, and keep a roll of duct tape handy. tape over the holes after each session. Should last quite a while.

The rubber does eventually break down from the impacts, but just add more rubber to the top of the box, or get a new box. You can even put the rubber mats behind it at a 45degree angle just in case you don't trust the box completely.

I bought the rubber mulch at Sam's Club, but I believe Home desperate and Lowes both carry as well. Nothing I have has come close to exiting the box.
