Seeking seasoned advice

They're right, the rabbit hole is huge, and there's plenty of room for more in there! You sound a little like me, been shooting springers for years, and just got into pcp's this year because of my desire not to lose any more of my hearing by shooting my powder burners. Started off with a marauder, and it's everything that they say it is. Went to a more expensive rifle next, and although it shoots better, had a debilitating problem with it very early on. The Air Force Talon P intrigued me...small, light, simple to operate, not expensive, very powerful...so I bought one. Put a nice scope on it, a DonnyFL suppressor, and the extended butt stock giving me a small carbine capable of 50 fpe at low power settings. This thing is a hoot to shoot, and I'm impressed with the quality of the build as much as the accuracy and power it puts out. I use it to shoot groundhogs down at the lake, and when it hits, there's definitely a big "pop" that follows. I like it so much I bought a Condor SS, which is just slightly larger and packs even more of a wallop.

Yes, it's only a single shot, but the action is extremely easy to use, takes very little time to reload and should be pretty much trouble free. For your need in taking care of the "guanas", I think you'd be hard pressed to do better than one of these guns and you'll spend a lot less money to boot!
