Searching for a unicorn and need help

I'm looking for my next mid-range scope — in both terms of magnification and price bracket. Below are the qualities that are being sought. Recommendations are greatly appreciated.

  • FFP
  • MOA turrets (required) and reticle (preferred)
  • magnification up to 16x; however, 20x and beyond would be better
  • minimum focus distance at lowest magnification: 7-10 yards
  • exposed (required) and lockable (preferred) turrets
  • focus wheel option would be great
  • bright, edge-to-edge sharp glass
  • turrets need to be decent but don't have to be the best
  • price: under $700
  • and lastly, lightweight if possible.

Past scopes that I like

  • Hawke Sidewinder 30 FFP
  • Athlon Midas and Ares

Any chance there is a scope that fits the bill?

@7weight This is probably the single most helpful post I found when I was last on the hunt for a specific scope. https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/150-scopes-comparison-in-3-scope-specs-tables/  Hope it helps. Thank you @JungleShooter for compiling this info.

That link is not working properly. It takes me here https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/nbsp/

Apparently AGN is having some problems as I have encountered other anomalies similar to this with the site lately.

P.S.

I looked up the correct link: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/%f0%9f%94%b4150-scopes-comparison-in-3-scope-specs-tables/?referrer=1

So it was not a problem with AGN, but with the link you provided. Thanks for pointing, or trying to point to it! LOL!

I edited my post. Scroll up and try again. It worked when I clicked the new one. Dunno where that nbsp part came from.

Yep, that works correctly! (smile)

@7weight Thoughts on this one? https://www.midwayusa.com/ltd/product?pid=777882 Dunno the minimum parallax adjustment.

From my own experience, if you need ~10 yards parallax/focus, make sure you get it. I have an Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56 that will only focus down to 15 yards and that is really the only reason why it is not on my airgun right now. However, it may go on a DAR .177 if and/or when I decide to buy it. LOL!

I like the 3 models you mentioned. Have owned both brands and most models (Hawke was a Frontier). All 3 will offer you good glass, bright and solid construction. I would call each of the series weights "middle weights", not the lightest and not the heaviest. Tough price point to get solid optics ,and, light weight (20-23oz.) Reticle preference could be the deciding factor in this price range. Have fun researching!

I have a couple of "Mid Range" PCP's, 50 - 75 yrds (FX DreamTact Compact and a Wildcat MK3 Compact). Best scope I've used that fits most of your criteria if not all of them is the Vector Veyron 3-12 x 44 and the Blackhound 4-14 x44. Both are FFP scopes with the Blackhound being offered in both Mil & MOA, both are 10yds to Infinity, both have absolutely stellar turrets, Blackhound has Illuminated Reticle, Both have very nice glass, and BOTH are well under $500. In my HONEST Opinion.. you can't beat either one for the money.
