Scuba Tank

Hello folks.

I have questions for those who know more than me which is pretty much anyone/

I have a small compressor and it works good, but some times I take my rifles away from home. I had hoped to get a Ninja bottle and regulator to get a fill or two out of. The price is awful high and I looked further. I have found an scuba tank for a good price and it has just had Hydro. The question is it holds 3000 psi. Both of my rifles fill to 2900. I am thinking I am not going to get many fills for all the weight I will have to lug around. Maybe I don't get it. I would have to get the tank filled at the scuba shop.

Thanks

God Bless

Cost is not always measured in dollars is it? Talk to Joe Brancato in Ca. He’ll fix you up. If you are filling your gun directly off a compressor that may be something you might want to reconsider due to moisture contamination. I’d suggest buying a midsized tank (maybe a 74 ). This air gun stuff is just plain expensive and the way to loose the most money is not doing it the right way the first time.

You won't get many fills with a 3000 psi tank on a 2900 psi gun. Maybe 2 fills at max.

Invest in a 4500 psi tank.

I generally only fill to 2500, but you'll still get astonishingly few fills from a 3000psi tank. I went that route and regret it. Now I have an unused 3000psi tank sitting here in the shop and I have shelled out for, and am enjoying, the 4500psi tank I should have bought the first time. YMMV, of course, but my experience says "don't do it!".

Thanks for the advice. I see I was wise not to jump up and buy the scuba tank. I kinda had a feeling.

I will hold off for now cause I just can't afford to buy a tank that cost more than my rifles at this time.

I reckon if I go to a match or off a far piece I will take my hand pump.

I know that the paintball folks stop playing all the time and I will run in to a good deal on a 4500 psi Ninja.

Thanks again and God Bless

I have made a Google Sheet, fell free to copy so you can hack it. Cell B1 sets English or French. Sorry but all calculations are done with metric units. The amount of air lost with the hose/pipe from the tank to the air gun is usually significant. The sheet is designed to calculate the number of shots you can get, the goal being for a refill to allow at least to shoot a magazine.

When I first started out with PCPs, I called Joe Brancato about what I needed and he explained to me why I didn't want a 3000 psi Scuba tank. He sure saved me some $$$$ - I bought a used 4500 psi 66 cu-ft SCBA tank from him - still using it. I refill it with an Air Venturi HPA 4500 psi compressor here at home. And the Air Venturi Nomad II I recently bought has sure lightened the load carried by the bigger AV compressor.
