Scopes for springers

I’m using a UTG scope from pyramid air on my TX200 and haven’t had a problem with it for many years. The UTG scope have been tested to withstand the vibration and recoil of a springer, there’s a video of the testing you can watch. I don’t believe it’s the recoil that kills scopes, it’s the the vibration of the spring that does the scope killing. If you think about it a 308 has way more recoil than a springer but, moving that scope from a 308 to a springer may end the scopes life.

I can nerd-out and tell you all the reasons how the spring vibration will do the scope destruction if you want to send me a PM

this is the scope I’m using

Leapers UTG 3-12x44 AO Accushot SWAT Rifle Scope, EZ-TAP, Ill. Etched Mil-Dot Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 30mm Tube

Spring airguns produce a two way snap whereas firearms do not. This type of snap is what kills scopes

If a scope has a true Lifetime Warranty Guarantee, transferable or to receipt holder, springers killing them isn’t operator abuse.

I myself use Hawke, Bushnell’s, Leapers & UTG, one SWFA I would LOVE if it were fixed 6x or 1-6 instead of fixed 16x. I never go above 10x for any group shooting no matter how far. In fact I prefer 2ndFP 1-6x for availability of wide FOV/holdover potential. I wish more fixed power fine reticle etched glass spring rated scopes were made.

Anything mentioned above will usually stand up to most spring guns for good. If not, that’s what the warranty is for.

I have some old hunting scopes that aren't build for airguns, i bought them cheap and thought if they brake i don't loose to much money, and the plan is that they will be replaced with proper airgun rated scope when i get some money to spend, cause i have about 30 rifles now and i cant buy new hawke's to everyone in one buy, but the old hunting scopes have been working just fine, don't think anyone have been destroyed yet, and when i buy more expensive scopes, i get good mounts also, like dampa mount

I also use a Sports Match Dampa mount (one piece) on my Hw77. It doesn’t have the stop pin however it hasn’t moved yet. So far so good.

I’m now using Hawke Airmax scopes on 3 of my rifles however I also have two ZR mounts fitted to the ones that have killed scopes before. I have had a couple of Airmax’s fail but Hawks life time warranty fixed those issues. The only sore point is the cost of shipping back and the wait.

I have used Hawke scopes on my springers with no issue. But I now have a Vortex 4-12x40 mounted on two of them and kinda haven't looked back. It is not a "springer rated" scope, but a rifle scope period. They carry a lifetime no BS warranty, no matter what, they will replace it if something goes bad. Those "springer rated" scopes will get trashed by a stout springer....happens often. I have at least 4 thousand firing cycles on my Vortex mounted on a D34 which is about a 17 FPE springer. No issues......has good glass also. Especially at the price point.

Nice to know that Vortex and Athlon scopes can hold up to a moderately powered springer. I have an Athlon Talos 4-16x40 and I like it but use it on a ZR mount since I wasn't sure if it would hold up to springers or if it was really intended to be used on a pcp. Through some weird quirk of fate I ended up with several ZR mounts for free. So, I'm using them for better or worse.I have an Aztec 5-25x50 sfp on a HW97kt and that has been a very good pairing- no ZR mount, just some typical two piece mount. I have a UTG 3-12x44 that I've had on a .25 cal Hatsan Dominator for over a year, two piece mounts, and it has held up great.

In short technology has changed somewhat in the last couple of decades.

As you can see from the above posts there are many, many choices available now that are compatible with springers, stated rating or not. Most companies now offer outstanding warranties to cover any oopsies.

Myself, I had a Burris 3.5-12x32 RA on an R1 for many years with zero problems. When I went to find that scope once again about a year ago I found that Burris no longer produced their line of Rimfire/Airgun scopes. This put me on the hunt. Out of curiosity I called Burris and talked to them about springers and scopes and they assured me that ALL of their scopes are capable of withstanding springer recoil, the key is finding a model with features desired on an airgun.

After some reading I settled on a 4.5-14x32 Timberline. For a year now the scope has been flawless on my tuned R1.

I see many of you mention the Vortex Diamondback line of scopes. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this line fixed parallax adjusted to 100 yrds ?

Mine are set to 50 yards. I shoot mostly around 25 to 37 yards. Never had any problem (and my groups are very tight and spot on. Often I can put 5 pellets through a hole slightly larger than one pellet skirt size at 25 yards with both the 48 and asp) although sometimes I wonder what I'm missing
