Scope replacement

I'm replacing the 4 x 32 scope on my rifle with the same power, the difference being and adjustable objective lens (AO). My present scope's parallax is adjusted at 35 yards, which to me is way too far for an air rifle. I often shoot at 10 yards, sometimes 20, and there is definite crosshair movement when I shift my head slightly. Why are airgun scopes made that are set for an excessive distance (for air rifles)?

I will probably move the scope to my .22 rimfire, since I consider 35 yards to be a reasonably common distance for that bullet.
