Scope recommendation for .25 Benjamin Marauder

Hello all,

I am new here and I am looking for a good scope for my .25 Marauder which I just received. I purchased this as a packaged deal with an 88cu.in. carbon fiber tank and a 6-20x50 Centerpoint scope. The scope is ok, but the normal distances that I will be shooting is 15 yards or less and the 6-20 does not focus down close enough and the image is blurry. I am looking for a good scope in the 100-300 dollar range.

Thanks all.

Check out the Discovery line of scopes. They have a lot of different features, and the glass & reticles have received some really good reviews. I just ordered one yesterday. Check them out at Airgun Optics Plus, Charlie has great reviews as a vendor. For your needs, I'd suggest a 3-9, 4-12, or 4-16 power scope. My needs are similar to yours; I went with a $120 4-16 power VT-2 scope so I have higher magnification when I need it for field hunting. But all of their scopes fall right in your price range.

15 yards??? fixed 4x scope. At the close ranges, lower magnification definitely the way to go. Anything over 4X will just not work well, and I suspect taking time to zoom in and out isn't really needed at 15 yards. If you want a variable, find a 2 - 7 or something in the low magnification range. My old (and I mean old) Redfield Widefield 1.5 to 4 would be perfect at 15 yards.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I was leaning towards the Nikon 3-9x40 in either the Prostaff or Buckmaster versions, however the reviews are very mixed for the newer versions of these scopes. The older reviews (2 years +) say they are great, but the newer reviews (1 year or less) are saying that they are built cheaper and are not worth the money.

3-9 would be an excellent magnification range for 15 yard hunting. You'll probably spend most of your time at 3x because it's sufficient. On the reviews, take a look at the reasons the reviewers are unhappy. Were they expecting too much, did Nikon not honor the warranty? Were they valid reasons to not like the scope. I find many reviewers are just not realistic in their expectations. If you find their reasoning valid for you, look elsewhere. I'm a Nikon fan from way back, still shooting Nikon cameras after over 45 years, but if they've cheaped out, go elsewhere. Also, what site are you reading. Amazon still has 4.5 stars, and some of the low ratings were for things outside of Nikon's control, like one guy got the wrong scope from the vendor.

I would avoid the BDC reticles. Those are designed for specific powder loads and just don't work well for air rifles. (In my opinion)

Another pet peeve of mine (it's not a requirement, but bugs me half to death) is when the reticle is Mil-Dot and the turrets are MOA. If you plan on using turrets to adjust for range, get MOA reticle with an MOA turret. At 15 yards this shouldn't be a problem as once set, you'll probably leave it alone, but I'm a touch OCD and it drives me crazy.

good luck on your selection. Can't really go wrong with a decent 3-9 at the range you shoot at.
