Scope mounting kit!!!!

Wheeler makes a nice kit!! I don't have that kit as I made my own, but it is very nice and a very useful tool for sure!! Do you lap your scope rings or skip that step?

I have that same Wheeler kit. I lap all my rings before I ever mount any of my scopes, Its amazing how little area is being clamped if you dont lap!

What did you pay for that kit lins? If I may ask.

Just ordered one from Cabelas. $79.99. There were some slightly better deals on other sites, but I had points to burn on Cabelas.

Since I don't have a lap or alignment bars made for 30mm, I figured I would just get the whole kit as it is a better deal than just buying 30mm separate.

Thanks. I have never had lapped rings before. May have to give it a try. Just seems like it would be more useful on powder burners with higher recoil where the increased surface contact area would hold the scope better. I suppose clamping the scope tube uniformly would not have any tendency to distort the tube. My Warne Maxima rings say that lapping is not needed however.

I have had some high quality and even mid quality rings that didn't need lapped. Usually they all can stand to be lapped. There are many benefits to lapping rings

Man, is there any end to this rabbit hole?!! Dies for sizing pellets and lapping of the scope rings.... I love it!!!

Well in that case you would have to remove the tape.

Used this kit for the first time a couple of months ago to mount a scope on my RWS 34 springer. Decided to lap the China rings and like posted above you will be amazed how little surface area is gripping the scope. Lapping corrected a slight out of alignment issue. As I age I am mounting scopes on everything and this kit is well worth the money.

Another good thing about lapped rings , they almost never leave ring marks on your scope !! Since most rings have light ridges on edges, lapping smooths all that out so it's spread out .
