SCOPE ISSUE OR????

I have a Crown .25 shooting avg.f 915fps with 34gn ammo. My Athlon 8-34 scope sits bottomed out on no limit rings and zero'd at 50 yards. It 3 Mill to 100yds. Then as I move out the clicks as shown on chairgun pro are off. The further out the worse. At 170 yards range card says 8 clicks and it is WAY short, like 30 foot. The range card worked great before. The only thing I did different is bottomed out the scope to get more elevation adjustment. Any Ideas??

Thanx

Dennis

I admit I used to do exactly what you are doing bottoming the turret out like that. One very helpful suggestion is to store your gun with the turret half way in the middle this way your turret springs dont take a set. NEVER leave it bottomed out or MAXED OUT for a prolonged period of time. Personally had the best luck with JAPAN turrets. Yo!

Just come back to the center of your adjustment on the elevation turret and make your max elevation adjustment via the rings. The Athlons have lifetime warranties, so no worries there. Post up your results.

I think it needs a DEFIBRILLATOR (rubber mallet) to get it tracking properly if it's been bottomed out too long. Yours has the better turret L.Leon. Yo!

Hey Dennis. How are you my friend? All is well over there other than the scope I hope. Try turning the turret a few revolutions, so the erector is back to center or could be if the return spring were pushing it to center and then try screwing the return spring(on bottom of scope) out a little bit, then back in a bit and then back to where it was to see if it loosens it up. Don't unscrew it all the way though, just a few turns each way. If it's been compressed a while, it probably won't help but it could loosen up the erector return spring. Good luck bud.

I’ve seen a few Athlon threads now. Is the brand good or is it hit or miss or what? I’ve never had one but I keep seeing these threads.

Athlons are a known, solid brand... like one poster said “user error” is a factor in a lot of PCP or scope related issues. Why would someone “bottom out” a scope? And “not” expect issues. As for these threads? Can you provide some link to “known issues” with Athlon scopes? Many posters here, whose opinions I respect run Athlons scopes and they like them. If they didn’t they would post up their discontent. And the brand would just fade away.

Could have been on GTA. I saw one on focus problems. But yeah don’t bottom out any brand. I’ve taken a look at them several times and they look like a great buy.

When you bottom out a scope all the way down the image quality degrades because the lens in the erector is tipped at such an extreme angle. I just went through this with my Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 on a AAA 50 moa base, but I was 3 mils above bottomed out. It still tracked fine though.

Getting a higher quality scope with more total elevation travel would be the best solution if you want to shoot that far out. Your Argos 8-34 only has 45 moa/13 mils of total elevation travel. The Midas TAC has 80 moa travel. The ETR has 110 moa travel. The more travel a scope has the easier it is to shoot long range without running into problems of one type or another!

You stated 8 clicks but you must have meant 8 mils, right??? When I plug those numbers into SHOOTER app I'm at 9.4 mils/94 clicks for 3000ft elevation???

With that Argos BTR I would adjust your no limits mounts to 5 mils above bottomed out and holdover using the reticle for the rest of elevation required.

Scope could be broke too, let us know what happens.

Guys, again I thank you all. I can't get to long yardage until the weekend. But based on some comparisons made here, I thought, I have both CGP and Strelok on my phone. so I popped in the info and I get the same results as you, or close enough. I played with the desk top version last night, I don't think it works well. I could not get it to replicate what I got on my phone. I should have known 8 clicks was way light.
