Scope Cam Evolved: A Hajimoto & Side-Shot Collaboration

In collaboration with Side-Shot, we have produced a scope recording configuration that truly is scope camera evolved! It is Gopro version of the Side-Shot that allows the HERO4 Black, HERO4 Silver, HERO3+, HERO3 owner the ability to use their existing camera for scope recording!

The boys are working on making that SKU available.
I know the full blown turn key camera solution will be one SKU
The Side-Shot for GoPro Hero 5, 6 and 7 Will Be Another SKU and lastly the Side-Shot for GoPro Hero 4, and 5 will be another SKU.

My understanding when talking to the Side-Shot boys is they will be offering a SKU that is the Side-Shot with GoPro Hero 5,6 and 7 support without the camera. So yes

Hey Alex,
I am not sure if you have followed me over the years or not but I only write or talk about items that I have actually purchased and tried for myself so while I may have found an article or ad for a product I am very reluctant to promote or suggest based on what was presented, I much rather share my personal experience with the product so this way you (the viewer) can come to a conclusion based on my experience.
All of that was a preface to say, about 3.5 weeks ago I ordered two 16 Megapixel 3.4mm 4K High Resolution No distortion Lenses and will be testing them out on my Hero6 (5,6 and 7 all use the same lens) from China. I just received the order yesterday and I need to test the lenses out for clarity and distortion before I can recommend them to anyone else. They were not cheap as they were over $80 USD each but they may fit the bill. I will follow up. In the meantime, I will send you the company I ordered them from in a PM and if you want to risk it, you can order one for yourself.
Replacement lens warning:
A word of caution to any of you that are looking to score a replacement lens for your GoPro, because I have so many years of experience with this GoPro Scope camera setup, I have proven results that support the recommendations that I make for lens selection. Only use a lens between 3.4mm to 6mm in a scope camera configuration because if you use a lens stronger than 6mm, the image of the reticle will be so large in the frame that you will lose all of the scopes round picture framing. You will essentially end up with just the center of the crosshairs with an extremely narrow field of view. The only time you might get away with using a 6mm or larger is if you capture in 4K. This is because the image is extremely small in the frame due to the high resolution and the extra magnification of the lens will make the image look larger. The downside is because you are at a high resolution you will be at a low frame rate and will not see the pellet in flight.
Side-Shot GoPro 5,6, & 7 Mount pricing without camera:
The boys at Side-Shot say they will have revised pricing for the SS-GP567 Without the Camera soon. I will try and follow up on this post when that change actually happens. I will simply add the information to this post as a revision.

I hope they will also offer just an adapter plate for those of us who already have a Hero7 and original Side-Shot.

I have been asking them on the regular about offering an assorted amount of SKU's so that existing and new customers have the ability to adapt to other uses. I think once the initial fit out stuff is complete, they may go that route. Lens options are a bit more complex as the market is at the mercy of the few lens producers that manufacturer direct replacement non distortion lenses. Companies like Rage Cam and BackBone are always an option but they both require a proprietary modification or kit changes to the actual camera. Simply unscrew stock and screw in replacement options are needed.
I have purchased a few from China and will be sharing my results soon.

Thanks for the video I enjoyed it along with many of your videos I have watched. I was wondering if you have thought of doing a comparison of the Sideshot recording and the ATN 4K PRO 5X20 recording. I just purchased the ATN because of all the options night vision, automatic 1 shot adjustment etc...
If you have used both systems I would be curious of your opinion Pros and Cons of both.

Hey Roy thank you for sharing your thoughts as it relates to my content, that is very kind of you.
I had the previous generation ATN and also used the new generation ATN and in both scenarios, it was like I was in a beta program but yet got to pay full price for the privilege.
The previous generation device was too grainy to be useful and not worth consideration. The new Pro 4K version fixed all the poor image issues of the previous but its software was a buggy mess.
ATN Pros:
- All in one package design.
- Night sensor result through the eyepiece.
- Smart phone and range finder pairing.
- Custom reticles.
GoPro Side-Side Pros:
- Superior image quality.
- Higher resolutions (True 4K day or night).
- Higher frame rates (Day or night).
- Utilization of the scope you already own.
- Multirole use of the equipment (Stand alone GoPro Action Camera)
- More robust configuration.
Lock ups of the software are still happening to this day. The ATN's have all the boxes checked but when it comes to actually deliver what we bought a scope camera for in the first place, it falls short.
The ATN offers some very cool gadgets like cant or angle of shot, Compass/heading, ballistic calculators custom reticles and many many other cool features but when the firmware fails and the unit locks up forcing a shooter to reboot the device while in a hunting scenario with the shot lined up, that is a deal breaker. The reboot sequence requires the power button to be held down for 15 seconds, we all know what happens in 3 seconds let alone 15.
Analogy, it like paying for a parachute with all the options but when you pull the rip cord it just doesn't open all the way. I mean it works sorta, you didn't die on impact but broken legs hurt a lot more knowing your financial investment to insure them also failed.
I am not bitter or saying I will not try ATN again in the future, what I am saying is previous exposure to their products leads me to believe they do not have an experienced beta testing or product testing program therefore the retail customer/end user performs this function.
These opinions are mine and are based on my experiences with the equipment myself. I do not work for GoPro or Side-Shot and do not receive paid endorsements from either to make these claims or statements.
