Scope And Bipod On A Budget

3-9x40 translates to a scope with variable 3X to 9X magnification and a 40mm Objective. A 4-16x40 translates to a scope with variable 4X to 16X magnification and a 40mm objective.

Variable power scopes allow you to view targets at different magnifications. For example, a 3-9 will allow you to view targets from 3x to 9x your normal vision. That means if you set your scope to 3x magnification, any object you view through the scope will appear three times larger than if you looked at it without the use of the scope. These scopes have a feature called a power ring. Turning the power ring changes the magnification setting on the scope.

40 denotes the size of the objective in millimeters. The objective lens is on the end of the scope farthest from your eye. Its purpose is to transmit light back to the ocular lens, which is the lens closest to your eye. The part of the scope that houses the objective lens is the objective bell, while the section containing the ocular lens is the eyepiece.

Hi Steve, as T4F said, I think you need to do some reading and look up some " how to's " on utube. It will give you lots of back round on scopes and info that's needed. For you to make a better judgement on what you want. If you contact one of the vendors that sells what you want, most will go over everything you will need to get up and running. But I would say to you, I would spend more money on a bit nicer scope to put on your pcp then worry about a bipod this eary in the game. Mainly because you can make a bipod to shoot with pretty easly. But a nice scope is much better to have. Believe me, you don't want to get a cheap one. You'll regret it. Please do some studing. Leapers or UTG are great budget scopes and centerpoint has made good improvements too. 3x9 magnification is the all around good set and normally cheapest of the variable magnification. Harris bipods are good for your price range. You also will need scope rings unless you already have some. UTG makes good budget rings.

UTG scopes are good. Pick one. They work well. Don't compromise on scope rings or mounts. If you plan on using the gun at different ranges go for the BKL scope rings. They have the self centering feature which ensures your scope mounts perfectly aligned to the barrel of your gun. A bit on the expensive side. I got mine for about 50 USD. They are worth the money. 

Magnification::: up to 50 yards of shooting a 3-9x40 scope is good enough. More than 50 yards and up to 110 yards you should get either a 3-9X40 scope or a 4-16X40 scope

It was my first one so not much to compare it to. I think it's real nice, but I thought too tall for my Condor. I'd guess it's too tall for a Maurauder as well. I should have sent it back, but I put it off too long.

Sure! Harris Bipods are good quality bipods that use the sling stud as an anchor. The price range for some of them is right around your price point or maybe just slightly above. There are also knock off brands that work the same as Harris bipods such as Blackhawk and Caldwell. I can't speak to the quality of the latter two as I've never owned them. I like my Harris bipods a lot, however. They are quick to take off and move to another rifle if needed as well. You can find good deals on Amazon or Ebay and I've seen the Blackhawk ones for sale at my local Walmart. 
Bipod size is another thing you're going to have to figure out. I find that for sitting in a chair shooting targets from a table, a 6-9" works well. For sitting cross legged hunting you may want a taller one. Try to figure out what how you're going to be shooting the most and then you can figure out what size you might want by using a broom stick and tape measure. Lock the tape measure at 12 (or so) inches and put it down so it sticks straight up. Then use the broom stick as a mock rifle and see where you end up. From that spot to the table or ground should get you pretty close. 

There's a lot of good scope advise above this post. I think 3-9x40 is a great way to start. It's a nice combination that works well. 

my 2 cents would be to not worry about the bipod and spend the whole amount on a scope. Even at $100.00 you are getting some very bottom barrel scopes. I got a center point for about that, and it was a piece of crap. I spent a little more for a utg and it was night and day difference for only 30-50 more. 

As as for bipods, they really are more of a luxury item. If you are using it to hunt, I find that most of my shots are either a kneeling or a standing position due to brush or long grass getting in the way. (I guess that's if I'm in a stalking hunt) in those situations I usually end up using a walking stick, shooting sticks, tree, or a building of some sort. If I am able to set up or am just target shooting I end up using a home made bean bag or sand bag. All of which cost me little to no money, and will work just as good if not better than a bipod. Of course I am not saying don't get one....because I know that look pretty cool, I am just saying that is an expense that can wait. Get a better scope!

I'll mostly agree with the above. Specifically, forget about the bipod. Spend all your $ on a scope. A Maurauder is worthy of good glass. If you spend all your budget on a scope you may never want to upgrade. You also should consider the cost of rings.

I do not agree about Centerpoint scopes. I own one as do several guys in my airgun club. They are great for the price point and if you buy at Walmart it's a super easy return.

That's what I would do. A decent set of rings and a scope will serve you a long time. $170 will get you something good enough that you won't regret the decision.

The sticky wicket is that there are so many scopes to choose from. Read up before you buy one... And shop around, there are bargains to be found, but ya gotta shop around.

When I first got my Synrod .22 I bought a 9-12" Caldwell bipod, too short for sitting but still very sturdy for 40 bucks there abouts. Then I got a Caldwell bipod for sitting I think it was 30" or so. I sent it back, too flimsy. I replaced it with a Harris $90.00, which is very nice. But still too short for sitting on a bucket and shooting. I then got a Vanguard shooting stick 30-60" $55.00, and that's all I use anymore. On scopes I got a UTG 3-12 x 44 scope. Its okay, I invariably leave it at 6x. I think its just okay, I plan on getting a better one when finances allow.
