Scammer Prevention, My way of Not Getting Burned

The government tracks our every move anyway it's their job we can't hide so no biggie. Just do what is necessary to avoid being a victim. PHONE CALL MANDATORY from a real phone and not an internet phone you know you can hear the difference especially that voice recording. English speaking of course and question that Chinese accent you chronic buyers all know that AA Classifieds scammer's voice already by now and apparently he makes his living off of doing it. Have a "relative" (COINCIDENTALLY!!!) living in that same state of suspected scammer arrange a face to face tell the seller that see if he bites. OH CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? MY COUSIN LIVES IN YOUR CITY! Get specific instruction how to get to his house. No meeting at his home then you know it's a scam. Who doesn't want CASH in PERSON and not have to SHIP IT? If it's legit just say your (WHOMEVER RELATIVE) can't take off to help due to (BLAH BLAH BLAH BE CREATIVE). GOOD LUCK

while there are some on AGN I have come to know I am not going to tell some stranger how to get to my house,
I trust my government a hell of lot more with my safety and privacy than I do a stranger
I like to meet in “safe places” if it’s going to be a face to face, video chat is okay don’t mind

regular PayPal doesn’t bother me if the extra 3% is a hit then split the bill

You can always ask for a mailing address. And full name Google map their address. Use a background check site. I have done this with a few purchases. Its worth the couple of $$$ if they won't give you this information buy somewhere else. You may find out things that they may not want anyone to know lol

Most transactions are done 100 or 1000 miles away. And with a name, City zipcode or state anyone can be checked.

Phone call - my best bet. Maybe even a couple of them. Trust your instincts. We tend to forget that we can innately tell a lot from a simple conversation. It's society that tell us to "not judge" and "give a pass..." whatever other litany of excuses. Ask a few questions, nothing too personal, but you'll quickly feel if someone's being honest or if they are indeed fishing for a victim. My mom always called it an "uh-oh" feeling. Trust it.

You can also reassure buyers or sellers in other ways. Fleabay was based on you live and die on your rating. I am carl8571 there and have been there for probably 20 years with $10’s of thousands of dollars in transactions.

Yuuup, providing your fleaBay member name / link is definitely a great added reassurance!
I've been on there since 2002, but used 'Crown-City-Customs' - which was my local/state/federal filed business name..
I'd always give that out too. As mentioned, that 'score' is a make it or break it number for buying and/or selling.

I finally just changed my account name on there, and you guessed it, it's: "dirty-dovi"

👍

Phone calls & Physical addresses are the best!
I've been doing/using both of them for as far back as the early/mid 90s, - When we had things like The Swap Sheet [paper rag before Craigslist] and other mags/papers..
While I suppose that sort of info could potentially be used nefariously, 9 times outa' 10, it's no big deal.

I'm a big fan of using Google Earth / Satellite also.. I look up addresses all the time.. Then slide around the towns, cities, etc. that are near by - just to check places out.
It's like going on free mini vacations. hahaha

'Background searchers / People searchers' can also be a great source of info when checking things out, but I rarely ever feel the need to do that..
Definitely a nice option to have though - So good idea mentioning that!
