Buyers and sellers beware! 

The holiday buying season is also the time when scammers become even more active. We do what we can on our end to protect our members and stop scammers. 

(WTB) ads are particularly susceptible to scams. If you've got a WTB ad - please read this! Watch out for ANY new member, with 0 posts, contacting you through the PM system about having what you want. Treat any message like this with the HIGHEST level of caution! Ask for pictures that include a date, message, or code that your provide to them. Ask to speak with a seller over the phone. 

Also, consider using ESCROW.COM to protect yourself from losing your money. 

We here at AGN continue to work on ways to stop these scammers before they ever have a chance to affect any of our members.

To many of us, these scams are pretty obvious but there are some that are more sophisticated than others. At the end of the day, these f@ckers keep relentlessly trying because it's just a numbers game for them. Even if 99.9% of us can recognize the scams, it's that 0.1% that they're trying to find so that's why they keep at it. The more fraudulent ads they post or the more bogus replies their send to WTB ads, the sooner they'll find their next victim.

Asking for photos with your name, date, etc. on a piece of paper is one good measure but we're seeing these guys photoshop photos to try to get around this. I've seen photoshopped receipts too so overall, just do your due diligence, stay weary and trust your gut. If it feels off at all, error on the side of caution. The cliche of "if it's too good to be true, it most likely is" holds true here . . . and even if you risk missing out on a legit deal by being more cautious, there's always another legit deal coming down the pipe - you just gotta be prudent and patient.

Check how many posts the person has and join date like JUST NOW. If they want to take you off of AGN via private email that's a red flag or give you a friends email.

Phone call and NEW photos with proof of TODAYS newspaper and utility bill with name and address are the minimum preferably an ID but many wont.
