Safe to use Alphabet org as a general lube?

I think it is problematic to think of anything as a "general" lube. Different applications require different lube properties. It seems, silicone lubes have received almost universal acceptance in air guns, yet it is the very last thing that should be used in certain applications; i.e., when metal-on-metal parts are subject to high pressure or heat. A good synthetic, non-silicone lube may be the most generally useful, such as Mobil 1 oil or grease, depending on the application.

Just to be clear, Moble 1 oil is safe to use in PCP, even if it gets into the air cylinder? What weight oil?

Thanks for the help.

Not sure we are on the same page here. The air cylinder generally refers to the air reservoir that attaches to the action. No lube should be in it, nor do I know how it would get in it. If you are referring the the transfer port/chamber area, from where the pellet is launched, then no, no problem. If it were an issue, folks shooting lubed pellets would have a problem, which is why it's not a recommended practice with spring guns. That said, I see no need for any lube to be there, other than from normal barrel maintenance, or shooting lubed pellets.

As for the weight of oil, whatever is on hand. Given normal ambient temp ranges, assuming it's multi-weight oil, it's going to be the same anyway.
