RWS 34 Power

I have a 1996 RWS 34 with under 4K rounds that shoots 14.3 gr .22s at 660 fps. Is this good? It was rated at 750. I was wondering if it needs new seals or a spring and piston set. I remember reading about a fellow who made a spring, piston and dampener setup that killed the spring noise but cant remember the vendors name.

EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking saying 4K, must have been tired. Now that I think 500 to a tin it probably is closer to 10K rounds. I guess the spring and seals are showing some wear. Think I will give the Vortek kit a go when I tear it down. Think shes got at least another hundred tree rats left in her.

the t06 ones shot around 650 for me - i reckoned due to choked barrel. but the t01 verions i have had got just over 700 (715-ish). yours probably has some spring fatigue, or someone could have left it cocked too long. tom gore (vortek airgun products) and jim macarri (air rifle headquartes) are both VERY good sources for parts to restore your d34 back to full power. i know only one guy who got 740 fps with a .22 like yours was chris pryjomski (c.a.p. airgun research) and he said the shot cycle was just too rough...... the first air rifle i ever tuned was my .177 diana 350. ray moody taught me how over the phone from alaska. ray (super6) was right - the diana break barrels are a good place for an airgun hobbyist to start because they are easy to dismantle. you'll have to figure out whose rebuild parts are better for your d34 - like both sources the same , although i find that vortek kits work best in particular airgun models , and same with macarri......that's my hands-on personal, real-time experience. ( all velocities using crosman premiers). hope that helps.

Thanks guys. I bought the gun new and have never left it cocked over an hour and never dry fired it. But it is 20 years old and things age so I tell my better half. Guess I will "spring" for the Vortek when I get around to the Diana 34. I almost hate to muck with it as its been such a dependable gun for decades but sooner or later I will. I have killed no less than 600 squrirrels with it. Current project is my "free" Crossman Challenger 2009 that Im attempting to get to 12 - 16 foot pounds and having to modify the bolt probe to hold the pressure. Good chance its a fail but maybe not?
