RWS 34 got a good chrono testing today........

I'm getting ready to tear down my 34 and do some deburring, polishing, re-lube and install a PG2 Vortek kit. I guess you could call that a tune (minus any trigger work). Before I do that though, I wanted to see exactly what velocities it is shooting now. The accuracy has been phenomenal with this gun, no complaints there at all. After chrono testing it today, I am very pleased with those results as well. Here is how it performed.....each string was 8 shots.

Crossman Premier HP 14.3g RWS Super HP 14.2g JBS Exact Jumbo Exp. 14.35g RWS Super Dome 14.5g

High 728 High 739 High 686 High 726

Low 717 Low 727 Low 675 Low 714

Avg. 722 Avg. 733 Avg. 681 Avg. 722

ES 11 ES 12 ES 11 ES 12

SD 3 SD 3 SD 3 SD 3

It seems to be fairly consistent. Don't really know why the velocity of the JBS Jumbo's dropped off as much as they did though. Not as heavy as the RWS Super D's but slower. I'm gonna test some more pellets soon, before I work on the rifle. It'll be interesting to me to compare current numbers with those after the work is done. I love this RWS 34....very accurate rifle.

JSB's shot really slow in mine too, compared to the Cp's, opened my 34 up to smooth out the gritty cocking and deburr it, and the seal was torn, had a flap hanging off the side. I'm thinking that's why all the vertical stringing it was doing, ordered a pro-seal from vortek and some grease to quiet the spring, in hopes that will fix my problem. I was lucky to get 690 or 700 fps. I would feel better getting the velocities your getting. It was the Cabela's deal, so can't complain to much. Good luck on your vortek kit, my HW95 is pleasure to shoot its vortek HO kit.

Will be interesting to see how much improvement you get with what you're planning. Pellet fit and dimensions can influence velocities as well as weight.

I was a bit surprised and happy at the velocity this 34 is shooting at. I have seen chrono results of some shooting a good bit slower and then again some right about where mine is. By my calculations this rifle is right at about 16.5 - 17 FPE, which is pretty darn good. Honestly, I don't feel that it needs a "tune". I really just want to go through the process so that I can learn as much as I can about this rifle and springers in general. I know thats the only way.....the good ole fashioned get in there and do it. When I do get this done I'll compare the before and after #'s as well as any other changes......be it good or bad. Thanks.
