RTI Prophet performance vs Impact M3

I WISH that I owned both of these for this comparision , LOL! But , seriously , both have a similar configuration / design . Both have tremendous accuracy. Both have high shot count and power. Sooo... as far as the differences I can see / hear about these two seems to be;

Impact M3 - does not have that "ping" next to your ear from the hammer and spring when firing. Does the RTI prophet? some owner please confirm this either way- not a real big deal , but we are nitpicking , after all one is parting with 2 grand for the gun. ( I am aware there is a several hundred dollar difference in price between them)

RTI prophet - less o rings , probably easier to work on . Again , need actual owners to chime in here.

Both have what appears to be floating barrel design , Does POI get moved when barrel is "bumped" slightly? Friends of mine routinely use barrel bands to help stabilize their FX guns. Does RTI also have that vulnerability?

Impact M3 - has FX barrels that do what they do - and do it very well. RTI prophet uses what? LW barrels or CZ? I know CZ seems more flexible with wider array of pellets but both will stack pellets fantastic once you find THE pellet.

So , which do you favor , and why? I feel FX can be "overated" , they are great , but are they THAT great?

This isn't a 'versus' comment.

The RTI Prophet Performance Compact:

1. ping = yes
2. Floating barrel = no
3. barrel manufacturer, not sure

The barrel, a real stout one, is deeply threaded into the receiver and there is a vented barrel bushing screwed onto the muzzle, no movement. The shroud is anchored to the one-piece frame with 4 or 6 screws. Bumping is not an issue.

It's NOT pellet picky, Thank God.

I’m an Impact and RTI owner. You can’t compare the two when it comes to consistency and durability. The RTI blows the Impact away. Well you might ask why would I have an Impact. Two reasons. First is because I already have quite a few absolutely dead accurate, reliable every day pellet shooters. I bought an Impact again for slugs only. If it can’t shoot slugs, it’s gone. No sense dealing with all its sensitivities when other guns do it with ease and simplicity. Tons of new pcp guys jump on an Impact. Unless you are a slug guy, or want get the absolute most out of every pellet made in a caliber, or at least try to, you may have just bought yourself a headache. Once you understand stand how every aspect of a PCP influences a projectile, and have spent time shimming valve springs to change your dwell, you will appreciate an Impact. Most PCP guys never get that far. Same goes for the FX barrel system. It’s a blessing because of the interchangeably of liners but it’s a curse for trying to tune it.

As Mike notes -

Both the RTI Prophet Performance and the Compact version fit in the same envelope design wise.

1. The ping, In my guns is VERY slight, in both of my guns. (My ears work well according to tests I took about 6 months ago !)

2. Floating barrel, no. There is the disc that Mike notes at the end of the barrel that is (small diameter) o-ring that is tight against the shroud, and is screwed tight to the barrel.

3. The shroud is secured to the frame of the gun inside two rings. In each ring is three set screws (one each side, one on top) to make the shroud very secure. Unless you step on the shroud, any minor (fall over, fall out of a car/truck) drop should (other than scope/sight movement) not effect the point of aim at all.

When I bought my full sized Prophet, it was a choice between the FX and the RTI. I bought the RTI based mostly on the fact that there are fewer points of possible leakage (o-rings).

I don't need barrel choices as I bought the caliber that I wanted when I bought the gun. The RTI has enough adjustability to suit my needs.

Note - as for the one gun-multiple barrel choices, look in the "for sale" section. always folks selling their unused barrels. So, so much for having multiple barrels

Mike

I think the only LW barrel in the RTI line is the long range .22 barrel. They use a CZ for everything else. They are good stout 15mm barrels and very well secured. No worries about grabbing a RTI by the barrel or leaning it on something. My Impact is a little more calm when turned up to shoot heavy stuff fast. The RTI can start to get jumpy when you push it. There is more noise by my ear with the RTI over the Impact but I’ve had other bullpups that were way worse.

Mike,

Im not sure how yours is mounted but my Prophet Performance LR’s barrel isn’t threaded into the receiver. It’s held in place by a grub screw. It’s easily seen in this drawing.

Granted it’s a drawing of the Priest II but they share many design features and parts.

My mistake... after watching a video of the barrel being removed using the RTI extraction tool.

All,

Not trying to hijack.........I'm interested in the prophet performance vs the maverick compact(compact not sniper) I know the obvious diff in shot count. I can get the RTI right now, who knows when the Mav will be available. Does the Prophet Performance do well with slugs in .25? I like to plink at 100yds if possible. What about 100 yds with pellets? I wasn't looking at FX until I saw Steve's tuning video from AEAC and he makes it look easy, but then again so does the AOA video on the Prophet. I'm coming from a .25 Talon P and a .25 Empire X. The X is okay at 100 but not consistently....Then I saw the Kalibr Tactical too. I don't see much on the latter as it's pretty new but seems heavy. I don't want to tinker all the time but I'm willing to learn, I just don't want to have to mess with a gun every time I pick it up.I like the Uragan too, I know everyone has their own opinions just finding it hard to decide and no I can't buy 2! I'm lucky the wife is allowing me one at these prices!!!

I can’t speak to a .25 but I have a LR and Compact Prophets, both in .22. They are both SOOOOOOO easy to tune if you feel the need to tinker but they shoot very good right out of the box. Extremely robust design and you don’t have to worry about bumping the barrel and messing up your POI / POA like you may on a FX. I like the breech seal on the end of the RTI probe vs inside the barrel on the FX. RTI has 7 O-rings in the entire gun vs a lot more in the FX.

I have the .25 prophet performance. No impact would do the rti again. I want a .177 next.

as far as ping I don’t notice it noting like other guns I own. I’m currently running the 26gr nsa slugs at 900 FPS it’s shooting them so well I’m debating about selling some of my other guns to get a .177 config slug shooter it’s been a fantasy of mine. It’s an odd to hold my r5m and uragan feel better to hold. Honestly I don’t have a bad thing to say about it really. Tad loud but so were the fx air guns I had. Oh and no fill probe to loose.

RTI now offers LW long range barrels in .22, .25 and .30.

I have the LR .22 and .25 for my Prophet Performance as well as the CZ .30 barrel.

The CZ barrels are a better bet for slugs (1:17 twist if memory serves) the LR barrels shoot pellets lights out however I have had good luck with slugs in both .218 21 grain H&N as well as 36.2 NSA for .25. Not a big slug shooter so just an added bonus.

The 25.4 in .22 and the 33.95 in .25 are the favs of mine...

Pic of .25 Long Range barrel

Great guns (I have 2 currently and sold another to Derrick Wall who uses it as his competion setup in .22 and has taken back to back first place wins with it).

Prophet 2 ?! Awaited : balanced valve , large plenum…
I was thrilled when the Prophet 2 was announced. Because of it I got a really good price on a Prophet Performance!
I figure it is capable of more accuracy that I can currently squeeze out of it anyway

To the questions in the original post.

The ping is there and very noticeable, but not at all annoying to me.
I believe that rather than emanating from the hammer/spring, it is actually a harmonic cause by air volume being restored to the plenum through a check valve.

Number of O Rings was one of a number of factors in my decision in the RTI of the FX Maverick.
I usually prefer to keep things simple. Less O rings means less possible points to leak from.
I have not owned mine long, so time will tell on this one.

The .22 Lothar Walther barrel is very stout. I think you could do chin ups on it. So far has proven to be quite accurate also.

Over the past 14 months, I have looked at nearly a dozen different guns. Earlier this spring, I had narrowed it down to the Prophet Performance and FX Maverick Sniper.
I loved the look and feel of the FX, but it really seemed unecessarily complex. and as I already mentioned. I prefer to keep things simple.
The same shop had one RTI Prophet Performance in stock but not in my choice of calibers. I was able to handle it too though. along with the FX
I think my mind was made up at that point, but it had to wait for funds to be freed up. That turned out to be a good thing, because waiting saved me a few bucks.

I have had my Prophet for just a few weeks, and so far, I have no regrets. I just wish I had more home time to actually shoot it, but gotta make a living.
