RTI Prophet Noise Levels Normal?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for looking at my question. I'm new to the forum and pcp guns so go easy on me! Just got a Prophet and was surprised by how loud it is. I dry fired it in the house and was shocked. I was under the impression it was a quiet gun. Went outside to fire a pellet and it was just as loud. Surprisingly loud, measured with a phone app db meter, it reads 95db.

Tank is filled to 250bar and regulator is set to 160 out of the box. I was under the impression it was set to 125 bar for the .22. Will turing it down to 125 make a significant difference? I'd rather not get into to tuning the gun as I don't have a chrono. If I do turn it down to 125 bar will the gun run ok without adjusting the hammer spring? I would think 160bar is at the high end for a .22, I don't need the power as I'm just punching paper. Recomendations and opinions please. I'd rather not add a moderator if possible. I bought a short gun because I wanted a short gun! Taking the end caps off, there is a couple inches to the barrel, is it possible to add internal baffles?

Thanks again!

Not what you want to hear, but you're going to need a moderator.

When testing the trigger out a bit I took a few shots indoors, no pellet, just air and no moderator. It sounded like a firearm going off.

The one I reviewed came with reg set at 130bar and was doing about 40fpe. I increased it to 170 bar and just a hair under 60fpe. It was too loud at 40fpe-60fpe to be shot without a moderator, unless you're out in the boonies and then you might as well be shooting a firearm anyway.

So can I turn down the regulator without messing with the hammer spring? Can I go from 160 bar to 130 bar without touching anything else?

I think you'll need to back off the hammer spring tension some if you're dropping the reg pressure from 160-130.

With the review gun I had, there was a fine line between reg pressure and hammer tension. I was trying to reduce the cocking effort by using a lighter hammer tension for that particular reg setting. It created the problem of a wide extreme spread. It was easily remedied by simply increasing the hammer tension to where it needed to be.

Basically, the hammer tension and reg pressure have to be somewhat balanced to the fpe you're after with the specific projectile you're wanting to shoot, which is pretty much true of any regulated pcp.

lower reg, "likes" lower hammer.

Less pressure will be on the valve, and thus require less of a hit on the valve.

If the hammer is hitting too hard, it'll bounce off of the back of the valve and close the valve faster than if it just hit.

For efficiency, set the reg, add hammer and gain speed, add more hammer and gain speed, repeat until you are no longer gaining speed, then back off 30 ish fps. This will get the "Umph" out of the reg power, but not use all of the pelenium volume; yielding more shots at a set reg pressure.

Mr_Spock, you don't need a special adapter for your tatsu as long as you purchased a tatsu with the 1/2 unf threads. I have a tanto on my Priest 2 and it makes a huge difference. To answer your other question, yes you can ad baffles to the shroud. There is four inches of space and you can either make your own or simply drop in some marauder baffles that you can purchase from ebay (you will have to wrap them to take up the additional space). The baffles will help significantly, but won't make it as quite as having a moderator.

Awesome thank you RCW ! I didnt think I needed an adaptor. Wont be able to shoot until I get the shush tube. Hopefully Donny ships quick. Maybe I can find someone locally here in Seattle who wants to help re-tune..... until then I will just live with it, spent all my money on the gun, compressor, tank and now a whisper pipe.

Gun is sweet from what I've seen and played with. 7.2 lbs naked, 10.2 lbs with a scope and bipod. A bit heavy, I like light guns. Seems really simple, i like that also, cancelled my Impact order as soon as I found this prophet. I like the pellet specific barrel also, 60fpe in a .22 pellet is crazy, no need for slugs here.

Also, if you are purchasing the baffles on ebay, make sure to ask the seller if they are aluminum or 3D printed. If they are plastic from a 3D printer they will crack and break.

NOT necessarily so..! A not so accurate comment.

There are many different plastics, many different heat ranges, and many different printers available.

There are also many different combinations (of the above) that will stand up to a shock (of air pressure). One just needs to experiment with the equipment and forms/types of plastic that he has, or explain what he / she wants to do with a proposed new printer to the manufacturer. Let them tell you what you need.

Mike

P.s. - a "crack" is a...break.

Ha what up pedantic Mike!

RCW was actually being helpful by keeping things simple and pointing out some are crap plastic and to stay away. Something I would have not thought of. Very helpful from my perspective. Most guys printing stuff on ebay don't have high end machines or exotic filaments, just assuming here. A fairly accurate comment and recomendation. Dont be abrasive Mike. Its all good man, just people helping people here.

P.S - maybe you should look up a definition before correcting others. You knew what I meant, everyone here knew what I meant. Don't be "that" guy.

TO THE PEDANTICMOBILE!

Just so were are on the same page: From Google

People also ask

What is a pedantic person?

Pedantic is an insulting word used to describe someone who annoys others by correcting small errors, caring too much about minor details, or emphasizing their own expertise especially in some narrow or boring subject matter

So THE PEDANTICMOBILE is the car a pedantic person would drive. Think of batman and the batmobile!

Ease up man.

The first baffles I put in my Priest were plastic Marauder baffles. I destroyed the first one after the muzzle within 50 shots. I wound up making my own active shroud for my gun. First internal components I made on my lathe out of aluminum. Then I made them out of Delrin. The Delrin components were quieter so that's what's in there. No silencer hanging off the end of my gun. Its quiet and only 2' longer than stock. So it can be done.https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/read-him-his-last-rights/
