I have a Royale 400 in .22. It's reasonably quiet, but not as quiet as the other rifles I use in the yard. I've tried adding a silencer using the Donny adapter, but that really screws up the balance, at least for me. So I'm thinking (which is often the first step in making a small problem larger), it might be more effective to remove the factory shroud and air stripper, and attach a silencer directly to the muzzle.By adding a silencer to the existing shroud, the air stripper is still diverting air to the rear, into the shroud. If all the escaping air was contained in the silencer, seems that it might be more effective. Just wondering if anyone has tried it? It's probably as my wife says, I'm usually wrong.

I’ve added a huggett snipe directly to the muzzle, and although it was a bit quieter, the added length of the huggett was not for me. Another option is the huggett shroud for the 400. It is significantly quieter, and only adds around 2” to the length compared to the factory shroud. Seems to me the ideal solution is to improve the factory shroud in some manner, maybe by adding baffles or sound absorbing material.

My Royale 500 is incredibly quiet. I assumed the 400 would be even more so. I do have a Donny Ronin for my Boss (screwed onto shroud with adapter). Boss is amazingly quiet for a .30 but want it as silent as possible for hunting. When I put the Ronin on my 500 the difference is nominal. My neighbors are very close, 30 feet either side of my fence line & they don't seem to hear the 500 either way. I don't mind the extra length on the Boss for the quietness (& accuracy) I seem to gain. Just didn't want to get into tearing down the shroud for fear of messing up a perfect shooter. If you do, please post results (quietness, accuracy, etc.). How loud is your 400 if you're a few feet away from it? I stepped away from my 500 last week while my son shot it & was surprised by how much quieter it is from even 5 feet away.

Thanks for the comments. I think I'm going to leave it alone for now. It shoots great, and is really guiet enough. If I want real stealthy, I can use my HW100 in .177, which I can barely hear when I'm shooting it! Most of my standard power .22 rifles measure in the upper 60s on my cheap meter. The .177 HW100 is mid 50s, a big difference. I'm writing this while sitting on my deck, just killed a squirrel with the Royale, neighbors out on both sides, no one noticed.

The shroud on those is not very far off of the muzzle. The muzzle should have 1/2"-20 threads. I have one of those barrels, and wish it was shorter. Putting a mod directly on it at an efficient length makes it quite long indeed. One option would be a huma mod. You can make them VERY short. I mean about 2.4" if you want. And if you only need a bit of sound reduction it will absolutely do the job.
