Events RMAC Courses of Fire (COF) posted

Big NRL-22 influence this year!!! Two separate NRL-22 events, Pellet and Slug.

Whereas in 2019 the Precision Marksman was more of a semi- PRS type event, this year it’s pretty much full on NRL-22. “Precision” Marksman should be renamed NRL-22, Probably best to call it what it is.

The Standard Slug Challenge is also showing NRL-22 influence with 4 of the 8 stages NRL-22 type stages.

The Speed event looks similar to 2019 except there are targets further out (to 70 or 80 yards) and lots of forced magazine changes (6 of the 10 lanes will require a mag change).

Should be a fun time!!!
I think my only observation would be that at least in the Airgun community, NRL-22 has been pretty much a failure with most Airgun competitors (except in a few areas of the country, but nothing like FT or BR). Yet it is being pushed hard here at this “Major” competition in 2 of the 4 events. Things that make you go Hmmm…

I'm still trying to find out what to expect for the Magnum Slug challenge as that is the only one that I was able to sign up for. I'm already questioning my selection of a single shot configuration on my slug gun. But I won't really know until I get an idea of the COF.

Yup, I had planned on single loading also but fortunately I can also mag load for the small bore slug. I think you’ll be ok for the Magnum since most of those are single loading. The COFs this year are very different from 2019. Many of my decisions were based on the events being similar to 2019 and they aren’t. We’ll, except the 100Y BR event.

Yeah, NRL during their Livestream last month was touting how the august nrl22 cof would be at rmac this year. Looks like some of the stages are from other nrl22 COF's as well.

Slug challenge is essentially nrl22 option 2 courses of fire.

Speed course feels very nrl22...

Resistance is futile 😂

Ha! You will be assimilated! Must be a Utah thing...? Should be interesting to say the least. Take my word on it, if you PRACTICE NRL-22 it shouldn't be too bad, but if you don't, you won't have much fun.

HUGE targets. I really was expecting something similar for the small bore slug out to 250 yards except of course with smaller targets. Having two events similar (NRL-22 Pellets and NRL-22 Slugs) was a disappointment. One is acceptable, but out of four major events (Magnum Slug is a minor event), two of four being NRL-22? Hmmmm..... Uh, why? ;)

I'm still looking for the Senior Division, but can't find it. Or they going to give us a 2 minute head start, because that's how long it takes me to get up and down lately .

Hey partner. If we end up on the same squad. I'll help you up and down. Didn't see anything barring helping someone up. Unless your beating me then I might be a little slow on the help.😜

See you in a week or so...

Just do the OG/Adaptive Recommendation (Senior Division). Should be applicable if you’re over 60. Rules are rules. And NRL22 accommodates all. Or so they say…. ;) I think they’ll pull it back to only one NRL22 event next year once they get the feedback from this year, but you never know what people are thinking when they do things…

From the NRL22 rule book.
The OG/Adaptive class is available to any shooter older than 60 years old or any shooter that has special needs/considerations. The Match Director will determine the special needs and hold a meeting with all of the OG/Adaptive participants to discuss the course of fire and all agree on any changes/scaling to accommodate the OG/Adaptive class. An example would be utilizing a bench instead of shooting prone.

There are what appear to be some easy shots, but also some difficult far shots.

For instance:
290 yds: Racoon (19"x35")

RMAC-racoon.1629400604.jpg

19"x35" sounds "HUGE" but looking at it more closely, not so easy. The tail does not add much area to hit. In reality, it's an 11" diameter center mass to insure a hit. That only gives us about 2moa of vertical error off center. Subsonic slugs seem to hold together fairly well out to 200yds but then open up significantly as I start moving out to 300yds.

I suspect that sighting in for 200+ yards at the RMAC range will not be possible. Maybe they will have some swingers setup where you can actually see a hit at that distance, but I won't count on it.

I plan on sighting in at my 70 degree F, sea level range and getting my holdover/click dope worked out. And then use a ballistic app to make the adjustments for the 90 degree F, 4600 ft elevation at the RMAC range.

I see your point... That example is the most extreme, but some seem harder than others. A lot of the targets will be up the side of the mountain, so make sure you work extreme angles into your scope dope... Bipods, one piece rests, and rear bags are allowed. At least they didn't make this one an NRL-22 type competition where you shoot long range off ladder steps, barricades and tank traps.

Take a look at the Slug NRL-22 COF, they have 5 inch wide by 3 inch high Dove targets at 200 yards that much be shot off a barrel top. And none of the stages allow a rear support. I only bring that up because based on 2019, I expected the Small Bore Slug to be a version of the Magnum, with smaller targets out to 225 yards.

Extreme angles? Great, one more variable to work in. No angles were given for the COF so I'll need to do that on the fly.

I'm not going to shoot the Standard Slug challenge, but yes... that "Bonus" dove target at 200 yds adds a significant element of chance. A few will likely hit it, with the right combination of equipment/skill/luck. And get the 20pts.

That Standard Slug Challenge is going to be tough.

I'm over 60yrs old but I can do the listed positions without too much stress. And that's what I'm planning for.

Do most over 60 use the OG/Adaptive Recommendations?

Not a clue. I’m 63 and have no trouble with those positions, but rules is rules. I just posted the rules from the NRL-22 web site. Personally I think it’s kinda silly shooting through ladders or off saw horses or tank traps. But the Rimfire youngsters seem to like it because it gives them a chance to play Army. Not so much airgunners…
