RG Grips

I would really like to find a nice set of grips for a Quackenbush Outlaw, and Dennis said to contact RG Grips. Unfortunately, I believe RG is now gone. Anyone have an alternative source for a set of nice grips like this? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Dude, you rock like Fred Flintstone. 👍

I'll admit my heart sank a bit when I saw Out of Stock. I'm so tired of that, and June? 2021?

Oh well, then I took a walk over to FleeBay. I didn't see any grips listed for that frame, but the ones he has listed sure are beautiful. I think I'll shoot him a message and inquire about a set. I can see why both of you like Vernon Austin.

@Motorhead , I believe that's correct. I was thinking 3-4, but time gets away from me.

The better question is how is that outlaw? I've wanted a DAQ pistol for a long time and have never put it together to make it happen. What caliber is it and how's it shoot?

I'll be happy to let you know as soon as it arrives! Yeah, it's not even here yet and I'm buying walnut grips and have about 2000 rounds of ammo waiting just for chrony and testing.

I opted for the .45 ACP flavor for several reasons. He is out of barrels for the 50 caliber and won't rifle any until this winter. With that said though, even if he had them I think I was still already set on the 45. First off, I tend to have a lot of 45 on hand anyway, but that said, 45 ACP lead is easy to find and widely available in a multitude of flavors. In fact just for testing this one my current stock pile consists of wad cutters, semi-wadcutters, round nose, hollow-points, and my always favorite in 45 ACP, the Flying Ashtray. Those things remind me of a large mouth bass! Next the range is a bit better, and when I ran the chrony numbers the actual fpe difference is minimal. In fact, in my research, during the strings I found, they actually cross back and forth as to which one produced more punch. That's not to be too surprising though. As Dennis himself said, the gun delivers a set amount of energy. It either pushes more mass a little slower, or less mass a little faster.

Unless my attitude changes after it gets here, and that's doubtful, my suggestion is if you've ever wanted one of these I would jump on it like a duck on a junebug. When you think about the amount of time, work and materials that go into one of these it's crazy that he sells them for $500.00. I mean how much of that can be profit after the parts, rifling the barrel, and other overhead? Anything comparable you can find out there would be 4-5 times that cost.

IDK how many years Dennis will keep making these, but they'll be sought after long after he's gone.

Did Dennis give you specs on that .45? Shots and chrony? I see the .50's run 550fps give or take.

You hunting with it or punching paper? I think they'd make a fun little carbine for predator hunting. A little light for deer but could be done with close range and proper shot placement. DAQ's are made about 3hrs from where I live which is also really cool!

As you found, you can find lot of specs out there where people have run a chrony on the 50 cal, but it's a bit harder to find good info on the 45. That's another reason I wanted to play with it. Worst case I add a 50 to the collection later this winter, but I doubt that will be necessary. I like having more options than round ball.

I did pull all the specs I could find out there and compared them. Dennis has some info posted showing that with SWCs he was running 600-550 fps on the 45, and he confirmed the findings. I found some other info going well beyond that, but as I mentioned 45 ACP comes in so many flavors it will depend on the weight of the bullet, and there is a very wide range of weights for those as I'm sure you're aware. I carried those flying ashtrays in my LEO days and absolutely loved the knock down. South of town a wild bore got hit by a car. He was hurt and severely ticked off. When I got there he had taken head shots from 9mm and 357 and was still charging. One flying ashtray to the head and the percussion on impact was so intense 4 of us had trouble hearing. I never did figure out why, but very strange.

Punching paper? Maybe some, but I like to have a backup in the woods. I don't like to let things linger. Just like the bore, I'd rather place a head shot and end things.
