A reward has been offered for a poacher possibly armed with something like a Benjamin Pioneer or FX Verminator.  I hope this asshole wasn’t one of you.

Both of those use arrows. The picture shows a dart that would come from a blowgun. Looks like you are barking up the wrong tree.

Just go to google images and type in blogun dart and scroll down. You can buy them at midway USA. Might want to tell department in charge that so they dont go after everyone with an airgun in AZ.

The department is well aware of airgun arrows thanks to people like Kip at AoA.  I just wasn’t aware of blowgun broadheads and can’t see any picture in the article, so I assumed based on the description that it was an airgun arrow.

Excellent, Im glad they are aware of the difference. The only thing that has me concerned is the statement about a device using compressed air. While blowguns do use compressed air, the device is your face… I just want to keep the heat off of us airgunners, we dont need anything to fuel the anti airgun fires.

I cannot figure how a dart like that can be load in a Verminator. Impossible to load this stupid thing.

Probably a Kid with a “Blowgun” knowing nothing about game laws or even what he shot other than a bird! Probably a lucky shot at that. Typical news media ignorance as far as suggesting it was a compressed air device! :( Do we even know that the bird was shot with the device or ingested it finding it somewhat hard to digest when eating a rat or mouse shot with the “dart”.

Investigation rather than accusation is what is needed here.

The air that fired that was compressed by a set of lungs.

I used to drive a truck for a living, and I know that there are some venders in Tucson that was selling blowguns that had darts just like that one. I wish I could remember exactly were I saw them but it was during a show that I did so.

Well anything is possible? But maybe they should tell people to be on the lookout for someone with a 4′ long pipe? And one more thread that made me look up something I don’t need to know about. LOL The blowgun forum is scary with all sorts of crazy long hunting shots claimed?(reminds me of other forums) ;)

Actually Some of those blow guns are scary powerful, I had a three footer that I could pop squirrels up in an old pecan tree back home as a kid, At least until my mom found out and took it away from me.
Key Note about blow guns…… suck in air before putting mouthpiece to mouth :O Whatever the case the air seal flange on that dart is way bigger than any .22 or .25 and with that size bolt the only type of even possible “air rifle” that could shoot it would be some kind of break barrel, or a tranquilizer gun. Trank guns are not that abundant if I was investigating the case I would look on craigslist history and see if one had been sold recently.  The only Break Barrel that Might and I stress Might shoot that dart would be the hatsan 135. But I would say most likely doing so would result in nothing more than the flange being pushed up the bolt. Further if you look at the flange you can see that there is no damage, If that plastic was pushed against the rifling of a normal air gun it would have cuts on its edge. there are none present. This means that the bolt was shot through a smooth bore
So no go on the 135. That leaves maybe a paintball gun or homemade gun. That is possible its all over you tube that guys are making their own “trash can” airguns out of pvc pipe and whatever else they can find laying around.
