A week ago (Dec. 20th) Pyramyd Air made this post offering a "free" metal spinning target for the 1st 30 people placing an order for one. So for $8 I went for it! (I also added a six-pack of exploding golf balls since I was paying for shipping anyway!)
It arrived this afternoon (Dec. 27th) and so far it looks pretty cool I have not shot it yet (that will hopefully be a fun video project tomorrow). So for now here are some pictures and thoughts about it...
The package was very well packaged and put together:
Assembly was easy. It might have taken 10-minutes or so. First up were putting the legs on. Three out of the four screwed right in. One was pretty tight:
The hub was quite well made:
No tools needed
I just had to loosen up the wingnuts to allow the arms to slide in:
OK, now it looks like something:
The hinges on the arms work well and the target spins as soon as one his flicked over:
Green stickers were a good choice. But they didn't send enough to put them on both sides. I have some orange stick on targets that I'll probably put on the back-side of the paddles:
Video of it spinning:
Now, the specs say this regarding the power of the air gun used with it. I read this as being about 6 FPE.
"Minimum distance: 10 yards with .177-caliber/600 FPS airguns"
I have a Gamo C02 pistol that will be a hoot with the target. BUT... temperatures are in the single digits and will only get into the low teens this week. So, while I may try the pistol, C02 isn't going to be a real option for now.
This brings me to some chrony work that I did yesterday where I tested my Royale 400 on low power (I will be posting a video on this later...). This .22 on low shoots 14.3 grain pellets at 550 fps. And at 35 yards I measured the velocity at 480 fps. This translates into about 7.4 fpe. This will have to be close enough! Besides, with the Royale being a sidelever, it should be a ton of fun shooting quickly at the target
Conclusion...
The target looks great! It was easy to assemble. BUT is it worth $50? I'll have to get back to you after trying it!
More to come...
