Request to FX

A lot of us are experimenting with your .177 caliber rifles with slugs. You have put all your development into larger calibers which are working well, but your barrel liners need work. My Dreamline shoots pellets and slugs equally well, for a while at least, then they lead up in the choke after 100-140 shots. Cleaning reveals a huge amount of lead in the choke area, especially when shooting slugs. It's time to adjust your liner manufacturing process to reduce the amount of choke in that area. I'm finding that projectiles are being squeezed down 0.005 which is way too much for that caliber. Seems to me that 0.002 shoud be enough. There is no way to remove that much material from the bore by polishing. Hear that, shooters? Polishing only knocks off the microscopic burrs and high spots in the bore.

I'm waiting.....

I will second this gentleman's statement / request.

I am readying my gauntlet ( glove ) in case i dont get a reply i like, and i can be at the FX factory in 6-7 hours. :)

We need .177 slug barrels, even if the superior liners dont look to be half bad.

I must also add having shot slugs in my Maverick lately and cleaning it, it do seem like it shoot better just cleaned and it fairly quickly go away.

I'm not a slug shooter, but I used to do a lot of metallic cartridge reloading for rifle and pistol. Seems to me, if you want to get serious about accuracy with slugs, you need to get a sizer with dies that will give you the diameter you need. If you're buying slugs rather than casting or swaging your own, then you just need to be sure the slugs are larger than you want, then resize them.

I have a 300 and 500 mm barrels. When cleaning with a patchworm, the last 3/4 inch really gets tight. I pushed pellets through them both which start out at .178 and come out at .172/173. Shooting pellets isn't too much of a problem but similar weight slugs are 50 fps slower. Lotsa drag there in the choke. I have to clean after 100 shots and the first patch comes out with a lot of lead on it.

I've bought practically every pellet sizer on the market. The smallest being .0.177. Not much help there. I've been talking to Nick at NSA. He just received some new dies and may have some smaller diameter slugs available in the near future. Currently, the only size he has available is .178. I'm guessing that 0.175 might be nice to try.

Appreciate the post. Yes we're very aware that our standard STX Superior is built and choked for pellets only. We do have a STX Heavy liner in the works which will address this. Hang in there, it's coming...

Thanks for the info, do you know if a current 177 carbon fiber barrel sleeve will fit the new STX Heavy liner?

Do you find the heavy liners have a less severe choke? In my .22 heavy liner even .216 is still very tight through the choke. Push through slugs are around .2145 and .215.

Same with the .25, choke is too tight for a liner designed for heavy slugs.

There are a few exceptions? Out of the 5 or 6 .177 liners I have measured, one is slugging at .174 and shoots 10.34 same hole @ 50 and slugs minute of starling to 50 yards, so yeah, you don’t need .172 to shoot pellets, I have had my order in, with a by monthly phone call to Newman reminding him of this. The South African boys have a 700mm shooting slugs that I guarantee is not .172” 🤬. Haha I’m just jealous and impatient 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Jonathan @fxusa,

There are a fair number of FX shooters participating in Hunter field target. We recognize that there has never been a .177 SUPERIOR liner developed. We need some R&D put into a .177 liner with the twist and choke optimized for accuracy. The 10.34 pellet seems to be the preferred pellet weight for HFT competition.

The Impact shines in competition in .22, .25 and .30 cal. We are DESPERATE for a .177 barrel that also shows off FX accuracy. Surely you can develop a liner that can outshoot a Benjamin Marauder. Help us to show off your rifles!

I SURE THOUGHT THE 177 I HAD WAS A SUPERIOT LINER AS I KNOW IT WAS TAGED SUPERIOR LINER IT SHOT THE 10.34 AND 13 GR FX PELLETS REALLY WELL

Ya, they are marked Superior but that’s the extent of it. They do shoot 10.3s the best, but nothing else. They can’t shoot slugs because they are choked too tight. Twist rate-????
