remote spotting scope setup -test 001

Was considering a better spotting scope. But sheesh, they're expensive, even if "mid-range".

So, gave it some thought. Voila... For under 50 bucks, got a cheap tripod and this stand-alone wireless "security" cam.

Oh, and had a couple spare battery packs for the phone (app for google and apple available).

Been using it a couple hours now, zero issues. Hope it lasts, I think I'm quite ingenious. ;)

where I got mine... use this link and Bezos will give me a dirty quarter off the bottom of his shoe.

I'm using an iPhone 7. Probably works fine with most. Good reach with the wifi router too.

When it's not doing that job, decided this one would do in the meanwhile....

Critter Cam! :)

OK, this looks all great — but I take it you can ONLY do this right at your home where you have Wifi through your internet router, right?

I'd need something that creates its own Wifi signal....

Any suggestions?

There are dozens of inexpensive cameras that can talk to your wifi phone without any other wifi server in the area.

rc4fun,

YES, that's great news! 😊 Thank you!

👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

And looking at your screen name — rc4fun — I'm starting to suspect why you know that (and why I'm ignorant about that same fact)! 😊

It's because you know about remote control gizmos (and I don't have the slightest). 😊

🔶 So, yes, I am very serious about getting this kind of camera — I already have spent many hours trying to find such a gizmo, I have a 10 page file on the computer with all kinds of ideas: •Direct Wifi cameras; •P2P Peer-to-Peer security cameras; •Cellular security cameras; •Trail cameras; •Dashcams and Dashcams for backing up; •the Tactacam; etc.

🔶 ➔ BUT: Many of the systems are expensive and/or bulky. And more often than not — the description of the gizmo is less than clear IF IT REALLY DOES DO what I need it to do.... 🙄

I live in a remote location where sending it back to the store is not an option....

I'm not entirely sure but it seems that what I want is something really weird.... — that apparently not many people want, otherwise it would be easier to find....

So, either in this thread of via PM I would love to get some pointers in the right direction....

THANK YOU!! 😊

Sorry Guys I guess that was kind of rude. One thing you can do is look for an older used GoPro from someone that just needed to upgrade.

I have one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Runcam-Camera-Remote-Control-Camcorder/dp/B07BNPYCC1/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=FPV+wifi+camera&qid=1628510667&sr=8-3

This works beyond 100Yd when airborne not sure of the range on the ground, haven't thought about using it for this!

For targets this one would be better, less FOV: https://www.amazon.com/RunCam-Airsoft-Android-Replaceable-Battery/dp/B086V3B3S7/ref=pd_sbs_3/141-6762402-0342805?pd_rd_w=hHAIB&pf_rd_p=f8e24c42-8be0-4374-84aa-bb08fd897453&pf_rd_r=PEPGV66CS74CN5A6F6HZ&pd_rd_r=68cc5d90-cb36-4106-884e-9c54feeab24c&pd_rd_wg=tVsCh&pd_rd_i=B086V3B3S7&psc=1

Another option for something other than wifi would be to buy one of the inexpensive 'FPV camera drones' and just use the camera portion. Most of them come with their own remote screen.

If you want a higher end system you can get the components separate. You will need: Camera, Transmitter, Receiver and Display you can find them as a complete system. None of this stuff is big and bulky. But as you all know the popular ones are all back ordered! https://www.getfpv.com/fpv.html

Once you have an idea of what you want Hobby King and Banggood offer low priced stuff.

If you go with components you will need to build your own containers to mount stuff, you'll need batteries and chargers.

I am NOT an FPV guy I have tinkered with it but that's all. I have come to dislike the 'drone' (quad copter) world because they have caused unneeded havoc in the fixed wing RC world.

rc4fun,

that was super helpful, THANK YOU. A Wifi action camera, i.e., a knock-off GoPro, is probably what I will go with.

$50 to $70, that seems reasonable for my application, I just need to make sure it has enough range. I probably should stop searching now on an airgun forum and go to an action camera forum...! I assume they exist...? 🤔

Thanks again, that was exciting news for me!

And a greenball for you, rc!
