Regulator for Hatsan Hercules Bully

I was wondering if anyone has put on a ALTAROS regulator on a bully .25 cal. Have been looking at them but wasn't sure if I would have to mod the stock at all for it to fit, also wondering if the additional chamber is needed. Right now I have been filling right to 200 bar and going down to around 150 anything higher or lower really makes it shoot all over the place. Any help or info would be great thankyou

Last person I saw that put an altaros reg on his, he had to cut up the stock. Reg’s don’t do well on the Bully due to a lack of plenum space. Believe me when I say I’ve tried looking for a reg for my Bully, and came up empty handed. Even sought after a guy to make a custom one, and he said a reg and a Bully wouldn’t be a good fit.

You can send a PM to a guy named COOTERTWO and ask him of his results with his altaros reg.

I use a cadwell deadshot rest most of the time otherwise just resting on a bag. I have read a lot of your posts on the bully, and have thought about trying to take off the bottle cover, but am worried about resting weight on just the bottle. When you fill your bully can you go up to the 250 bar fill mark? Would be nice to get more shots per fill. Also I have the hammer spring adjuster all the way back flush so it will still slide down into the stock. This is a 26 shot string I got, need to try it again and watch my pressures for each shot.

When out shooting when filled to the 250 bar it is all over the place until I get back down to around 200 and the the group's tighten up good. I will try and message him. Thanks for the help.

First, try using heavier pellets like the 34 grain jsb’s. Also, those Barracuda hunters are like the crow magnums, right? Just a solid open cavity for a hollow point? Try the Hunter extremes or the Haydes if you are seeking a destructive type head, instead. I was a big fan of the Beeman and H&N Crow magnums cause they did well in my gas ram springers, and thought they would do well in pcp’s, but they didn’t. The dome heads and Barracuda Hunter extremes work well for me.

try and order some extra springs thru hatsan, or if you have a spring compression tester tool or access to one, mic out the factory spring, check compressed weight, and order ones thru McMaster Carr. With those new springs, try experimenting by snipping off different coil amounts to shorten the spring to give you more room to adjust your hammer spring tension, to get the speeds down. The speeds you have currently at a 1000 FPS and up, it’s no wonder your having accuracy issues, sir.

even on my own 30 cal, the factory out of box speed of 1075 FPS caused crazy groups. I have the hammer spring adjustment but out 12 whole turns CCW and am set at around 876 FPS average, for 22 shots max, which is 6 more shots over the factory settings which only gave me 16.

on the bottle resting on a rest, have no fear, unless your literally throwing that bottle onto the rest, lol. Removal of the cover in its entirety is your choice, of course, and others I’ve discussed this with have kept there bottle covers on by gluing or using two sided tape between the bottle cover and the bottle, but the one thing they for sure did was cut off the two barrel shrouds rings from the cover, to isolate the scope rail. If you watch really close, as you tilt the gun on the rest(especially with a bipod) the flex of the bottle cover transfers onto the barrel shroud, then onto the scope rail. That scope rail is a hollowed out piece of channel underneath, not solid, and will flex and twist. Well, that then transfers onto your scope and mounts.

Trust me when I suggest to order the scope rail that is off of the hatsan Bullmaster from HatsanUSA, and use that instead. It is a direct bolt on to the existing mount locations, it’s a solid piece of aluminum bar, and it’s only $29! Don’t hack up your factory scope rail with a hack saw to shorten it and remove that bottle cover. You may want to sell that gun one day. With that Bullmaster rail, you should see a big difference in the accuracy.

The Bully in itself is not a dime size, hole in hole gun like the more expensive platforms out there, but it is easily a 5/8” to 3/4” group gun out to 65 yards if you do your part. My buddy was over last summer, and we set up golf tees lined up on a 2x4 with holes drilled out to accept the tees, and we placed paintballs on top of these tees. At 65 yards we were popping those paintballs all over the place.so yes, the Bully has decent accuracy.

one other thing I did was to remove the barrel, set it up on a padded vice, and ran a Dewey cleaning rod thru it with a bore mop, coated with JB non embedding bore paste for around 75 passes. After cleaning out the lapping compound I then finished off with JB Bore Brite for around 30 passes, cleaned that out, then finalized with a couple of passes with a metal wax. Got the inside to a mirror finish. Make sure and stop about 3-4” short from the crown when using the bore paste, though, as you don’t want to lap the crown.

i'm going to start with the fact i do not have a hatsan bully . but alteros does make a regulator for it. they also have a tube extender which i believe connects to the reg. not sure if it will work with the bully. all on alteros site at top of forum. scrolling by. i think with your power output , all you need is the reg. put that on and then play around with hammer spring adjustments , etc

I emailed hatsan and they are currently out of stock on the bullmaster rails but will email me when they are back in stock. Will also try some heavier pellets. So far the best shooting pellet has been the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme. I have tried some slugs but it shot them even worse than the pellets for accuracy. Tried the varmintknockers 32.8g, avs 30g, and h&n grizzly 31g. Have been thinking about trying the Griffin slugs mabey I'll try there 36g. Never did run them over the chronograph though. Will not beable to do much this week as have started my 6pack at work.

I did get ahold of COOTERTWO and said he did have good luck with the regulator but had a small leak with it, so I may still look at getting one but i am going to wait until i get a new rail, springs and try some different pellets and slugs and see how it works.

Is it hard to remove the barrel from this gun or is there instructions on how to do so, I have never removed a barrel from an air gun before. I have messes a lot with powder guns. I will also do some googling to see what I can find on removing the barrel also.

Thankyou for all of your help

To remove the barrel, going off of memory-

unthread the barrel shroud, and keep note of an o ring that’ll pop out that belongs at the rear entry of where the shroud threads back into. Set the shroud and o ring aside.

remove the factory scope rail. If you’re careful, and your scope rings didn’t land on top of the scope rail fasteners, you can remove the rail with your scope and rings still attached to the rail.

on top of the receiver block you will see grub screws. One or two, and this is where I forget. Remove the grub screws. Before sliding the barrel out, take a sharpie and place an index mark directly on top of the barrel(12:00) so when replacing the barrel you know which way point up.

slide it out. When replacing, it is important you take note of the barrels transfer port hole on the bottom, and make sure it lines back up with the transfer port passage inside of the receiver.

Did you ask COTTERTWO if any modifications to the stock are required to run that altaros reg?

Agree on better choices available than H&N Hunters if you are looking for game ammo. I didn't have much luck with JSB Hades. They just don't open in any measurable way. The Hunter Extremes are OK. H&N Terminators are better. Better still are the Predator Polymags.

YES!!! Forgot all about the polymags. Those bad a$$ pellets fit perfect in the Hercules Bully magazines. They actually shoot very well out of my Bully. Thanks for bringing this to light, Daniel

Back to Nelson- contact the folks at Nielsen Specialties. Two years ago when I got my Bully, someone suggested slugs, so I went on their site. NSA actually has a section(or did back then) where a list of guns and calibers were shown, and which type slugs worked best out of these guns based on customers evaluations. At that time nothing was listed for anything Hatsan. So I contacted them and they said they were looking to bring in one of the two Hercules platforms to do slug testing on. I don’t know if it ever became but it’s worth a check.

I checked on there site and found the area they have the testing but no hatsan guns were on there. But they do have a sample pack so i ordered that to do some testing. Now to wait for lapping stuff to come in also before I test them out. Thinking if I should wait for the top rail to come into stock before I do testing or just try them and see how they end up grouping. Would you test 50 or 100 yard ranges?

So got some time to mess with the bully today. Found a few things with it the rail the back screw was way loose so tightened it up and took off the bottle cover part.

It is amazing how easy it is to get the rail to flex.

Decided to try and shoot some groups just resting on a towel at 25 yards.

So now I have a new problem the check valve for filling stuck open and dumped all the air out of the gun. Tried a few times to get it to work but just waisted a bunch of air. I will have to look up and see how to take it apart and fix it.
