Regulator break in ???

so i put a huma reg in my wildcat last winter. Originally set it for 135 bar (according to the mark). chrony registered 825 fps avg. been shooting the gun all spring and summer. the last few times ive shot my 25 yd zero has been off. today it was high. adjusted.

so i checked the chrony and it is down to 760fps avg. hammerspring has not moved.(i have it marked).

IS IT LIKELY that the reg has settled in? or moved on its own.?

I don't have an answer for you, but I agree that it is probably not the reg breaking in. I would disassemble and clean. How is the consistency? My only Huma experience is putting one in my Royale 400. It works very well, but the pressure markings on the tape are way off. I had to increase the reg pressure to an indicated 150 bar to get my tuning where I wanted, and a full chrono run showed it was actually closer to 120. Unless the reg adjustment screw moved, I can't imagine the cause. I don't know if you measured the OAL of the reg at the point of adjustment, but it's probably a good idea, and would disclose any movement.

Most of or all my guns of done this. The spring is really stiff when it is new. Then after a few thousand shots, it looses its stiffness. Also, if you leave the gun cocked for an extended time it can be press the spring and loose it's stiffness (but the hammer spring can still be set at the exact same place.) "Regulator break in" usually means that the shot consistency settles down, not regulator's pressure. That's my experience with it.

that could be. got a couple thousand shots through it now. i’ll mess with the hammerspring this week and see if it comes back up. hopefully i have enough left in the spring to bring it up without a reg adjustment.

Really, a sudden drop in AV of 60 fps? Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never experienced anything similar.

I've experience a drop in of 200fps in my Ataman .357 after the spring was compressed for an extended period of time. I had to buy a new hammer spring to get it back up to speed. Also, my Lelya experieced a 30fpe drop in the first couple months then leveled out and I tight up back up. Its been good for a year straight now and sticking to 860fps without anymore adjustments.

well, here’s what i think is happening, but i want some input. when i set the brand new reg, and hammerspring that had mabne 400-500 shots on it, it was getting an average of about 820 fps over 55 shots set in my basement around 68-70 degrees.. since then i have not put it on the chronograph. so this could have been gradual. BUT!, the other day it was 85 degrees when i measured 760 fps on the chrony. and just now, i shot about 20 shots and it was averaging right around 800 fps in my cool 68 degree basement.

DOES TEMPERATURE HAVE THIS MUCH AFFECT? or is my cheap caldwell chronograph inconsistent depending on light conditions......
