Refinished Stock on Taipan Veteran Compact

Decided to refinish the stock on my Veteran compact the other day. The stock seemed to have below average finish from the factory, as the clear had runs and was sticky and was just generally bleh.

I used a deglosser and coarse steel wool to remove the gloss and rough up the surface. Debated refinishing with gun stock oil & wax, but the wood grain was lackluster. And frankly didn't want to spend that much extra time on it. So, decided to go a different route. Used a coat of primer and then a couple coats of Rustoleum textured paint The lid showed it should have been closer to black, but this came out more grey in color for some reason. May leave it, may do a different color, haven't decided yet.

Overall, finish seem pretty durable and will be easy touch up. Feels great to the touch. Def recommend if you're looking to do something different.

Looks great! I did a synthetic rifle stock with the same Rustoleum textured paint. It looks good, is semi-durable and gives great purchase wet or dry. A definite advantage to this paint is that if you get a scrape or gouge in the finish, you don't even have to prep it to repaint. You just spray some paint over the damaged area and it blends perfectly. It really is easy to touch up and is one of my favorite features of that paint on a gun stock. Your gun looks awesome and I'm sure you're going to love it!
