Red Wolf HP vs Red Wolf Safari

Not sure if the current HP is different but mine and several others I've shot were gen 1 boards and the Safari is the gen 2. Mine struggled to get 970 w 25.4s so I ran it about 930 to 940 with pretty good results. Still running the original barrel but acquired a gen 2 board for testing other calibers and had to turn it WAY down to run 980 with the 25.4s. BIG difference in power capabilities ... but like I said .... I'm not sure of the current HP equipage. Ask AOA if it's important. The barrels are the same... LW poly's .... and mostly seem EXTREMELY good w the 25.4s. I tend to like my walnut stock on my HP more, so that's what I shoot the most.

I really believe most would be more than happy with the HP unless the stock is a big deal.

Thanks Bob. The current HP with the polygon barrel is rated at 50fpe which is around 940fps with the 25.4s according to Strelok Pro. That is probably enough for me as I don't think I would be shooting beyond 100 yards. Although I would be mainly shooting pellets I might want to try slugs somewhere down the road. Have you had any success shooting them with the polygon barrel? I prefer the walnut stock so I'm kind of leaning towards the HP that way.

Hp is 50 fpe, safari has upgraded electronics so its 65 fpe and safari has a r t approved barrel. I would skip the safari for the added cost since you cant buy a programmer. I would wait for Deltawolf but as you know its going to a long wait to Canada. .22 hp sure is a nice rifle.

I wouldn't mind the Delta Wolf but it's going to pass the 4k mark and I don't know if I want to go there.

Does anyone know if the safari stock is walnut with the etching done to the walnut? Cause I really love that stock!!!

I don't know this for a fact but i think it is done like how you suggest.

What i find is strange is the safari hp .22 and i think the red wolf .22 seems to make more power than the red wolf .25 hp. In Canada anyways thats how it appears.

Nomojo65.... it is not walnut, but it IS pretty cool. Mine is just figured pretty nice so that's why I prefer it.

Corvid_hunter.... I've tried several Nielson slugs with very good results. The latest was a 2.165 in 16something grain . Shot easily into less than 1 inch at 100 at 1070 fps I think but 3 to 4 inch at 940. The bc was similar to the 25.4 pellet so was just as sensitive to the wind. I can't remember all that were good but several weights have shot less than 1 inch. I've not experimented very extensively with slugs though so not sure what ones will reach out as far as the 25.4s. I've shot some relatively small targets out to 289 yards with pellets. That one was an 8 inch triangle and I was around 50% on it with misses very close. Typically can paste a 4 inch spinner repeatedly at 161. Just depends on how bad the wind is that day. I really , really like this rifle.

There is one important difference between the two guns and it doesn't have to do with the electronics or stock, all HP guns would come with the GEN2 board now anyways if bought new.

The 65FPE of the Safari is acieved with the 34g Beast pellet, you will find that the best speed for accuraccy with the 25g JSB RD is around 970, 53FPE, I stress this is specific to the RW and LW barrels, whilst having shot them at 1080 to achieve the 65FPE I prefer 970.

This means that the gun would be best used, 65FPE high power curve with 34g Beast pellet, medium power 80% of HP with the 25g RD to get exactly the 970 this pellet performs best at in our experience in the LW barrels, low power? who knows but maybe the 25g for shorter range?, certainly nothing lighter in diablo will generally work well.

HOWEVER the new JSB slugs can benefit from the HP curve in the RW LW barrel at speeds that are generated by the HP curve.

So you really need to ask yourself, what pellet or projectile do you want to shoot? are you going to shoot slugs all the time? every now and then etc. etc.?

If I wanted to shoot just the 25g RD JSB then I would probably plop for the HP, JSB Beast & slugs then the Safari.

Hope that helps you to make a decision.

Thanks for the info on the stock, I love the walnut as well I sometimes really wish I would have ordered mine in walnut after seeing in person! Daystate always uses beautiful wood! Mine also shoots slugs really well, it loves the NSA 20.2 ( hate to say it but the FX 22.5 do well but I have to keep my barrel clean to shoot these! ) also the 23gr NSA, all of them are Moa or less to 75yds I was impressed! I didn’t purchase this gun to shoot slugs?, but it does quite well with them. Don’t be afraid to buy one they are a joy to shoot & shoot & shoot and shoot some more!😎

SO at 65fpe how many shots is this ? I thought the difference between std and hp was just barrel length , I am running a 24 inch barrel on my r5m .22 cal and getting 69fpe , so 65 out of box is excellent this is with a 24 inch barrel ? $4k is a bit much for it , Does anyone know if the new Delta can be programmd b the gun it self or with a cell phone app if it is blue toothed ? , how is the new deltas power levels changed ?
