I am not a FT competitor, keep thinking I might give it a try. I have two rifles in .22 which, I believe would make good HFT rifles in .177, a Red Wolf and a RAW. I see RAW mentioned quite often as being successfully used, but I see little mention of the Red Wolf. Is it just coincidence that my searches have missed it, or have they proved to be disappointing in FT?

The key to success in field target is finding a rifle that is accurate when shooting at 20 fpe or less. ANY rifle will work if it meets that guide line. The most popular caliber for field target is 177 as it can be shot at higher velocities while remaining under the 20 fpe threshold. Some of the most successful FT shooters over the last several years shot Benjamin Marauders. The Red Wolf should be a great FT rifle. If you and your rifle can consistently shoot 1 inch or less groups at 50 yards you have all the accuracy you need to be successful in FT. Just remember your scope is almost as important as your rifle in FT.
I highly recommend that that you take whatever rifle you have that shoots under 20 fpe and get out to a match. You will meet some great people that will give you more advice than you can absorb and you will have more fun than you have had in awhile with your air rifle.

Thanks Jim, good advice. I have been involved in many shooting sports for a half century, and I expect FT is no different in one aspect; the most important adjustment is the nut behind the trigger!

Question from someone who likes the idea of FT but knows little about it. The rifle must be under 20 FPE. Take the RW for example -- it High power is over 20FPE, can you still use it on Mid or Low if you "promise" not to switch to High? Same thing for scopes - if your scope adjusts higher than the allowed limit, are you still allowed to compete if you agree not to turn it up. And - how would that be policed or enforced?

If you have a standard RW in 22 I'll swap you one of my 177s action only (unless yours is the BLUE MIDNIGHT) and let you borrow my brand new Daystate programmer to set it for your HFT limit. Mine has a permanently glued on Red Huggett hope yours does too. You should be able to win with one of these unless you're a natural bad shot just make a hamster for it and I have one that I dont use talk story.

Wait for a used Daystate MK4is or Panther if it's around $800 or less that's the max I would pay for it and those guns are a hard sale based on watching prices and how long it takes for them to sell. I think last one sold for $750 after starting at $900 and sat for a really long time subsequently reducing the price monthly. There was a leaky one for $500 couple years ago that I missed.
You could do well with an unregulated Brocock Bantam HiLite in 177 that sells for $600 on the used market or a Factory regulated HUMA Version HR for as low as $800 used. Just do the trigger magnet mod then you're all set.
Don't Laugh even the $229 177 Umarex Gauntlet with very little minor work and a Hajimoto Barrel band could do very well if you get an exceptional one that shoots 1/4" at 50 yards otherwise they get around 3/8"-1/2".
I know you're a HW100 fan but the 177 will not have enough shots at 20fpe to finish the course.
I wouldn't plop $2000 on a RAW HM or TM 1000 if you're a natural bad shot anyway and especially if you aren't sure if that HFT sport is really for you and they are super loud especially in 177 even with the factory silencer installed if that matters to you.
Me? I would use one of my 177 HUMA (Both aftermarket DIY installed) Daystate Renegades 18-19fpe because they don't turn off by themselves at the least opportune moment when you are ready to take that money shot and have superlative electronic triggers just like all Electronic Daystates have. Hope the Delta Wolfs have a manual on off switch!!!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents . I put a 177 barrel on and tuned down my HP to 18 ft lb or so. Shot wonderful but I shoot Open with no accessories of any sort and it was DIFFICULT. The stock just isn't good for my position . The FT LPR above would likely be awesome. I do know it's incredible for Hunter as several have proven .

It looks like it could be - if you collapse the riser and remove the butthook. But the reqular RedWolf looks more suited for Hunter Division.

No butt hooks allowed or exotic shoulder support mechanics
Hamster would exceed the 6" barrel C/L to bottom rule
Disadvantage on power ... HFT allows >20fpe and rifle is a >12 fpe rig

I'm surprised they would make a Red Wolf FT rifle that doesn't have a programmed power level above 12 fpe. Sure seems a waste of the platform, since I assume some shooters would use it in both World and US power categories.

I've been training and competing with my RW all year and love it. Amazingly accurate rifle for AAFTA Hunter FT.
