RED DOT for AP16

...I saw where a guy put a Burris Fast Fire on his Beeman P1 and thought "I can do that "...

...only I want put this Vortex on my AP16...it is the successor to the Fast Fire IMHO...the 3 MOA model popped back up @ Amazon but it sold out already...I got one...I just hope it is not also a counterfeited model...

..I already got and tried those cool UTG adapters...I used one to mount a TRS 25 to my AR7 instead of the heavy adapter I had been using that was designed for springers...and the scope is "out for delivery"...this place rocks... 😁👍

...the Barska unit in service works quite well but is too dark, and the dot too bright, for low light conditions I prefer...I very much like the 2 MOA dot...in good light it is excellent, despite it's price point...IMHO...it's a bit like a mirrored sun glass lens...

...it has proven adjustable, repeatable, and durable, holding POI...it has a cool mount that goes both ways...it mounted the AP16 w/o any sort of adapter...it did ship with some rust on the fasteners...if it had 10 brightness settings in one color rather than 5 settings in red and 5 in green, it would be a better scope, IMHO of course...

...I tried another TRS 25 to replace the Barska but sent that one back...either it was not legit or they changed a lot...

...maybe I just got a lemon but the windage adjustment stuck, and the objective lens protruded from the forward housing...

...it was noticeably brighter that the Barska, and the dot could be made dim enough for dim light, but it is not the same scope as the one I have on the AR7...

...I wish you had posted that data before...I do not know that I really have a legitimate reason to return the Vortex Venom...

...I liked the form factor enough to give up some of the features of the Holosun...I didn't think that the dot would be any sharper per se...I did wonder aboot low light...

...it is much better than the Barska and a fraction of the size but I do have some star bursting and it could go a little dimmer...the view through it is very clear...the housing does not block the sight picture much at all...

...the adjustments are a bit difficult to adjust precisely but I did get the gun zeroed quickly with no issues...

...you pretty much need that special tool they provided to remove the battery cap...

...anyway, there are a couple of those Holosuns @ Amazon...it looks easier to use than the Venom too...

...after a bit of agonizing I decided to just stick with the Venom as I am satisficed with it and dinna' want to look at, through, nor carry the Holosun's bulky solar array...

...methinks the Holosun is the better sight...I just like the Venom better on the AP16...

...more compact, lower profile...it is not like it suks...it just lacks features that are of less value to me than it's form factor for this application...

...I find the only time flaring is an issue is under the most demanding conditions...of course , that is when it is the most bothersome...LoL...

...seriously, in good light flaring is not an issue for me with this optic...in poor light it is a minor one, mostly because the dot is too bright, IMHO...it is my one real gripe...it is manageable...

...I should probably check one out side by side with the Venom but I was happy with it anyway...until 'shooter posted...

...1st World Problems...LoL... .!. :D .!.

...I carry mine in a tripod bag...I would use a shoulder holster and have done so w/o a moderator...

...the moderator is what messes up a holster for me...it takes too long to screw on in the field like in the movies...

...most people carry them in the field mounted to holstered handguns, eh...most people do not mount expensive optics on air guns....

...if some one would start making holsters for specific air guns they may find a ready market, but not enough volume to be profitable...

...how may AP16's are there, anyway...???...how may owners will want a holster...???...

...I carried a scoped, moderated AP16 in an Uncle Mike's bandolier rig for a 14" Thompson Contender but like the tripod bag better...

...the fit of the bandolier was marginal partly because the AP16 is so narrow...it was hard to use the snaps...

...the tripod bag is covert and easy to get the gun out of and put away quickly...this is the one I used...it is "too big" but works just fine...

...that is better than too small, eh...I carry magazines and air cylinders along in the accessory pouch...I often have a camera bag too, with a camera in it...

Sorry Hapo :D

The two issues you mentioned with the Vortex is why the Holosun wins out. The Vortex doesn't go low enough for low light indoor shooting, and the startbursting which can be somewhat controlled by lowering the brightness and is not a big deal outdoor.

The HS407C can be had for less than the HS507C and the only difference is the single dot versus dot/circle options.

...I am still a bit on the fence...I just canceled an order for a Holosun...the Venom is dialed in...I really like it...

...but I didna not cancel the return I started on it...(grin)

...I don't want to looks at the Holosun all the time but it might be easier to get used to than fightin the brightness of the Venom...

...the Holosun is way more tacticool...but I find the Venom is more tactilely cool...

...either way thanks for the input...methinks you have sold some Holosuns to new AP16 owners...

...thank you...I am feelin' ya on the bore axis but the view from the rear makes the Holosun looks relatively massive...

...from the side it looks bigger but not so massive and more integrated with the gun...the Venom looks precariously perched in comparison...that knob is not photogenic...from the side, IMHO, the Holosun just looks better, albeit a bit bigger...

...thing is, Hapo will be looking at it from behind, eh...

...one thing we could easily ascertain form buying one and looking through it is which one transmits light better...i.e. which one is less dark...blocks less light...methinks you get the picture... (grin)

...that was the big issue with the Barska...it was like looking through dark glasses...

...could you fit two adapters under the Holosun...???...asking for a friend... (grin)

...I meant two of those cool UTG pic to 11 mm adapters instead of just one to be more solidly mounted...

...the Holosun seems to have a much larger footprint or whatever...

...we give up like 1/4 " of mounting surface on each side of the adapter with the Voretex...it looks like more with the the Holosun...maybe enough to squeeze in another UTG adapter under there...???....it looks like the cross bolt (?) is far forward on the Holosun rather than in the middle like the Vortex...

...we see a lot of empty space under the back of that Holosun that Hapo would much rather see filled up with an adapter to hook up to the sight mount...it would be OK if it stuck out a bit...

...so it would be three mounts... .!. :D .!.
