Recommendations for Airtank Sellers

Hi I'm new to the forum and have some questions about scba tank sellers out there. I've been to the popular ones but I'm surprised there are very few reviews available regarding any of the businesses. Perhaps I can get some feed back from some of you on the forum. One business I looked at has been around 10 years and only had 17 reviews. That isn't a lot and for all I know that may consist of friends and family. I've invested a lot of money and research into this airgun hobby as probably most of you and the scba tank is a chunk of change that I want to feel good about who I'm dealing with and what their customer service record is.

Apparently, one of the more popular sellers is Joe Brancato at airtanksforsale.com but I’m having trouble trusting the website interface. Just last night I posted asking if others have some experience with the site. But all accounts it seems Joe is a fine guy, but the buying experience through the website is another matter :)

See my post under airtanksforsale.com website problem.

Pyramydair.com is another reputable seller carrying Air Venturi products, among others.

The most popular choices out there are the Air tanks for sale , the Omega and the Air Venturi. They all seem to be a decent choice and they are available in different sizes. If your looking to get a less costly tank a lot of people buy a used SCBA tank . I have one of Joe Bs tanks and it is fine I agree his web site is from the 1970s you need to call in when you order he gives good service . I also have a Small Benjamin tank that is great when in the field as it’s backpackable . I recently got a 9L tank from China which was not expensive but it is not certified so unless you have your own compressor you may not find a place to fill it also the Chinese fill valves are not as convenient to use.

I don't know what Joe's deal is with keeping that crappy website, like he thinks having one that looks so disjointed and obviously shows he knows nothing about marketing somehow gives him credibility. Hey, Joe! Heads up! IT DOESN'T! It undermines your great products, your expertise in the field, and your ability to communicate with your current and potential customers. Get your head out of your backside and hire someone who knows how to put a website together. Your customers will appreciate it!!!

Call the bonehead, errr, Joe, and order your tank, etc. from him. Be sure to tell him that the only reason you called him was because you saw good feedback on a well-designed website, and that caused you to reconsider after you were turned off by his lousy website.

Precision Airguns and Supplies is a good shop and their website is pretty up to date. They carry the same Omega products that AoA does and the owner Jim is a great guy.

AoA also sells the Omega tanks and provides good service most of the time. Their website is better than it used to be but it’s not tied to their inventory system so I recommend calling and confirming price and availability over the phone. They ship pretty quick too.

Joe B also has a good product but his website sucks. He’s a trustworthy guy but can sometimes be a little pushy of a salesman and his shipping costs seem to be the highest of the vendors I’ve dealt with plus he charges a credit card fee of 3.5%.

Overall the product you’ll get from any of these guys will be good.

"Brian10956"I just hope that if Joe modernizes his web site he doesn’t use the people that does AOA. He would then be going from the 70s to the 80s
 Someone at AOA at the annual review: "I think the update was too radical and hasn't quite worked like it was supposed to.Customer complaints are rising.I think we should revert to the nice old format that everyone liked. "

With a "specialty" hobby like airguns, especially PCPs where an inventory is a substantial investment....a potential customer can't simply go to the local brick and mortar store.Cuz there aren't many.THEREFORE..on line stores where we can examine a product, read reviews, see pictures, videos truthfully displayed targets etc is more important than ever....

For most of us these air toys represent substantial investments that actual sacrifices were made to obtain....as an example Pyramid has great viewing and information on much of their products ....pricing and shipping costs are high in my opinion...but AoA new website I dread navigating...I just call em cuz their site sucks,
Listen up vendors....upgrade your websites.

I'm having trouble pulling the trigger on Joe's products. While it may be true that his products are good, it seems that caring for customers should start with providing a secure site in which to make transactions. Pyramydair.com does. So do countless other vendors. ( I have no connection to Pyramyd but I have bought from them in the past ).

I do not like giving my CC# over the phone since I do not know if someone is writing the number on a piece of paper to make the charge later and therefore who knows where the number might end. Yes, it may be no big deal - I can always cancel a stolen card/number, but it's the principle. Creating a proper website is not a major undertaking in today's age, specially for a business probably selling $1,000s every day. Not to mention they already have the site, they just need to add a SSL certificate.

Airtanksforsale provides no website security, charges an additional fee for using a credit card (no CC extra charges at Pyramyd), offers no free shipping regardless of order size - I was looking at a large tank with all the options, about $855 total (free ground shipping at Pyramyd for similar order), and lastly, when I called and asked about discounts in general or for Air Gun Nation members (as has been mentioned on this forum) I was told by an employee that there where no discounts (discounts found on line for Pyramyd - i.e., 10% off order). I think people have been drinking too much of the cool-aid about airtanksforsale being such a great deal. In point of fact, they are a bit more expensive than just about all other vendors. Again, products may be good, but pricey and with a lousy buying set up. If they fix the web interface, I'll reconsider.

I agree 100% about not liking how Joe B does business and I only have ordered from him if what I wanted was not available elseware. I will say in his defense that I was never screwed over by his out of date billing practices. I probably spend $10,000 a year or more on my shooting and Joe has missed out a big piece of it but not dealing with ordering on line. Every reputable vender has credit charges built into their pricing structure but not Joe I don’t like paying an extra % on a order that is pretty much a list price sale. It would be acceptable if he was giving us a substantial discount but he doesn’t.
Joe if your reading this you should decide if you want to update your business practice or remain a dinosaur and you know what happens to them.
