Recommendations for a .177 springer for my 9-year-old daughter?

The Air Venturi TR5 would be a good choice. It's designed as a starter/kids rifle which is reflected in the design.

Taking into account the very important detail that this is for a 9-year old, it should be easy enough to cock, powerful enough, reasonably accurate, and reasonably priced.

I picked one up as an impulse buy and find that it's really not a target gun, but would consider it a good place to start for a child.

Xisco xs12 is a great rifle on the budget end. It's made for young shooters. Also you can have it tuned by Mike melick to be even more smooth and easy to cock. The gun is 105 bucks but the tune is a little bit more. It depends on how much you want to spend on the tune but it's not all that much money. Honestly I would rather have a Mike melick tuned Chinese springer than an untuned diana. Also it won't be upsetting if she nicks the stock or scratches the bluing. This would be my first choice of springers for a kid. The hw30 and others mentioned here are good as well but I would still pick the xs12. The full tune he does includes recrowning the barrel and totally honing the piston and sleeve and also he does a full trigger job. I love that guy. However I should ask you. Are you sure that a springer is the best gun for her. Mike also tunes a co2 rifle xs60c to get 16 or 17 fpe. It is way easier to operate for a 9 year old. If you get it you should buy the 20 dollar end cap from archer airguns. That co2 rifle is lighter, smoother and same power as a lightweight springer after a tune. Goodluck buddy. I have a 7 year old and pcp and co2 has kept her enjoying the sport.

Man kicking myself for forgetting this one...

Daisy 853 CMP used in semi beater to REALLY REALLY REALLY BEATER condition with scratches and dings and stickers and crayon markings all over on some of them BUT refurbished by Daisy $120.00 shipped!

10 meter match entry level easy one pump operation only the loading takes some finesse but ok once you get used to it. Scopeable YES and BARREL DROOP very prevalent if using high magnification scope.

If CMP is a BUST the new black ones are $250. Or the $329-$450 by shopping smart (OR NOT) for the wood version.

Better yet if you can find the CM (5 shot magazine version much much much easier to load) probably from a CANADIAN DEALER since its discontinued here. Be sure to verify that it has the Lothar Walther barrel and shooting up to factory 490fps specs. SOME used ones pop up only shooting in the mid 350fps so be aware!

I have several of both (and NO they are not for sale) but all are tack drivers.

If a "springer" is mandatory then Beeman R7, without a doubt. I have one and love it. But, I am an experienced airgunner.

A good CO2 or entry PCP would be a much more productive and rewarding option. Springers require a ton of finess to shoot accurately (they vibrate and require consistent "artillary hold.") Not so with CO2 and PCP. You can support them with bags, lay them across a table... and hold pretty much any way you want.

Given that, I'd really recommend A Benjamin Marauder "Pistol." It comes with a detachable stock, great trigger, and fantastic accuracy. Your kid will hit much better than with a springer. And... all the fun is in hitting stuff.

I wouldn't recommend a CO2 gun for a child. I had one and I HATED IT! I ran out of CO2 cartridges fast! And my dad couldn't be bothered to go buy me more.

My friends hated me while I had CO2 because I could shoot faster shots than they could with their pumpers. But when I ran out of CO2, they never let me borrow their guns. Sweet revenge for them. To this day, I won't touch a CO2.

If you could find one, a Marksman0035 is a light weight accurate gun. However, you will need to chop down the stock as its a 14+ inch stock. However, the pistol grips is still really for adults. Beeman had the same gun rebranded with their name but I forget what Beeman called it. I thinks its Beeman GS700. I found mine in a pawn shop for $50.

There's a Diana 25 on the classifieds make offer. It's probably a 450-500fps shooter and should be easy to cock if it shoots that slow. No idea what it's worth. Maybe offer $100 shipped IDK?

14 pound cocking effort and 12 3/4 length of pull and overall weight 5.5 pounds 37 1/2 inches... something like that!

A HW30 would be to large a gun for a 9 year old, its more of an early teenager type rifle. You may have to dig around a bit by Weirhauch also made a youth model springer name HW25 that I think had a shorter length of pull and easier cocking if I remember correctly if your thinking of something German made. Now I dont beleive they are still manufactured but if you shop around you find a used one in good shape for sale. Perhaps look around European websites to possibly find one.

Crosman Tyro? Made for the purpose, but don't know much about it.
Light, breaks with barely a tap. I prefer the feel of this over my umarex explorer. Which is a very accurate shooter at just under 500fps. Tyro shoots just under 600? and has adjustable butt stock to grow with young shooter. Tyro handles better for me but ive shot thousand through my explorer in a year and with a cheap scope its probably the gun "i'm" most accurate with.

Theres also aftermarket red ryders supposedly upgraded to shoot 400fps. Id buy one if this was true and the internals were reinforced to hand it. Kits are available too.
I wonder about accuracy. My red Ryder adult version is definitely soda can accurate at 20 yards, but for target or paper punching I'm sure it would be infuriating.
