RD Monsters, shallow or deep cavity?

I've been shooting my supply of RD Monsters in my Bleu Wolf. All have been the shallow cavity, and the only issue is/was that about 10 or 15 per tin have undersized heads. No biggie. So I order a large supply and the new ones I just received were all the deep cavity version. Not only that, a friend in Oregon and another in Texas both got a supply in and theirs are all deep cavity. Is this the version that JSB has now decided to make exclusively? I'm not sure which shoot better in my Wolf but from what I've heard anecdotally, it isn't good... ;(

Mike, you have probably already seen Edosan's thread on this topic, but if not check it out. I cannot recall if you responded, but in any case...

Q. Is it possible to request ( or specify ) from the Dealer that you order from ( i.e., Pyramyd Air, AoA, Utah, etc...) that they inspect a tin or ship only the shallow cavity RDs? I realize they would have to break the red tape seal, so I'm guessing the answer is no. Alternatively, I wonder if JSB can address the question or concern, if enough members request the shallow skirts vs. deep skirts and reasons why.

As long as the tins are in excellent condition I don't see a reason that the tape can't be taken off to inspect them.

I got 11 tins last week from straight shooters, 10 were shallow base and one was deep. Unfortunately many of the tins were banged up, so lots of damaged pellets.

Today, I received 8 tins from PA, all deep base. These were in better shape and shinier. No foam packaging, though...

For the deep base, if I lowered the speed to 900fps, they shot pretty well. I am shooting the shallow base at 935 and they are quite accurate. However the deep base don't seem to like that speed and the groups opened up. So maybe try lowering the speed a bit.

I found it just the opposite for me noticing that the skirt looked to be thicker I increased the speed and good acceptable groups at 100 yards but did have a wild flier or two! Unsorted and unweighted pellets and the wind was blowing 8 to 10 mph and swirling, tricky conditions to try for real accuracy but that's pretty much the norm for my home range! Oh-Well need to get out and burn up some more pellets to try to figure these things out just have about 2000 of them! Dang!

So, the flat base are 2-year old stock that they have been clearing out. That explains the grayish color. Funny, they even came in new screw top lids. Finding these will now be like a treasure hunt and scratch-off lottery rolled into one...

After more experimentation with the deeper base, I was able to get a couple of really good groups, but definitely not as consistent as the flat base.
