RAW REPORT

nomojo, very nice! I think a Donny will help with the report. I would think the carbon fiber sleeve may help with harmonics. As for stiffening the barrel, these barrels are thick like bull barrels. I think Martin uses regular LW rifled barrels in his .30 cal set ups, not sure of the .25's but I think non choked polys like the .22's. You installed a Gray Ops Arca Rail! Looks fabulousl! Have one on my Chassis....besides the acra options, it also protects the reservoir! LOL! If the Donny isn't quiet enough, might have Neil Clague make you one or try a ODB or Hugget......what caliber is yours?

Ok, new look! installed CF shroud today with devcon epoxy ( JB WELD ) will let cure for 48hr. Then continue testing.

My old .30 HM1000x pretty sure had a 4 groove LW. Will see if the .25 10 groove is any good?

couple tuner’s and muzzle brakes to play with as well! ( Dare I say REAL tuner’s! )

nomojo, is that a Tatsu!? Nice looking set up with Donny adapter...how is the report? Very nice groups in the wind with the new Donny combo. Two weird fliers...h'mmm. Maybe try and size some of the JSB's before the next range session to see if that helps with fliers. Have you had the barrel polished? Had mine polished, no fliers with JSB's or H&N's FYI.

Ya, it’s a tatsu. Scrubbed the barrel and lightly polished it. It still barks a little!

It’s not unusual for me to get fliers no matter what I’ve tried (including a tuner), the only shooter/builder I know of that has very, very few or zero flyer’s is Mike Niksch.

I know if I miss a condition or- (AIM WHERE I THINK THE BULL IS?) a few will know what I mean but that! Can make it look like a flyer.

Hi Soooo I have had a 25 cal raw for 7 years and this is my perception.

Trying to get a HP raw to reliably and consistently shoot out to the newer Long ranges (100 yrds) at paper is Hard.

The thing is always going to throw one or 3 a bit wild . (and I mean new as with in the last 8-10 years hey us old people can say a decade ago is not that long ago OK! ) The Raw platform is OLD! and Was not meant to do it . When it was winning alot of the long range bench rest comps was when they just went out to 75 yrds .

So why no Mods to the platform to help it compete against all the freak PCPs coming out of Europe at the time .

Again this is my perception. Martin did not want to ...He just wanted to build the fine guns that the low v and short range guys always had him build for them ( this was the kind of shooting HE enjoyed) . And not blow a freakish amount of money/time trying to get a 40 year old platform to do some thing it would never do well.

Ohh I have some of those eruo guns ok and i like them. BUT, Man I really like the mechanical simplicity and the look of my pre air force RAW.

Scotty57, I respectfully disagree, when you reach out to 100yds with a gun shooting pellets I don’t feel the European guns are any better than the RAW, Thomas or AAA. 100yds is asking for frustration! Not much consistency there, everyone in 100yd comp. Should shoot at least 3 cards per match then let’s see which gun or shooter comes out on top?

Maybe a grand aggregate after all three events for a overall title? This requires skill not just win by BRAND!
Another competition that should be for 100yds is slugs, this would be very interesting for all manufacturers.

Scotty, all RAW's are still built by Martin in his TN factory, Airforce does not build them but they do custom work for them like longer barrels, biathlon cocking levers etc....they are still Martin's babies!

Hi all,

Well as I wait the 20 long weeks for my RAW order, I figured this is a good place & time to ask some questions that I hope you folks can answer.

1) I understand all caliber RAW's now use the largest receiver size (the .357). And apparently this makes it difficult to find aftermarket magazines that will fit. I like the idea of the CARM magazines. So, is there ANY current aftermarket magazines (and single-shot tray) that will fit the latest large RAW receivers ?

2) I am just deciding between standard and "quick-release" versions of some scope rings. My question is: will I ever have much (any?) need to take the barrel off the receiver for repairs and maintenance ? Or is is generally safe to assume the scope can be mostly "permanently" attached ?

3) I really dislike the look of the new threaded muzzle cap that comes on the non-moderator version . I am in Canada, so unfortunately that means NO moderators whatsoever. I was looking at the Brocock Muzzle Brake, which I believe will thread on quite nicely. Is there any reason I should not be considering a muzzle brake for my RAW ? I realize they may do absolutely nothing beneficial, and theoretically might even have a negative effect on accuracy. But, I sure would like to try to make my rifle a wee bit better looking. :)

4) I hope to install a typical sling-swivel stud in the LRT stock at the butt. Has anyone already done this successfully ? Anything I should be aware of with this particular stock with the minor drilling involved ?

Hope that's not too darn many questions all at once. But, I AM rather excited about it. I've wanted a Theoben Rapid ever since I first saw them in the 1990's. I figure it's now or never for me ! LoL !

Anyways, thanks for reading, and a double thanks to any replies you may have to offer. This wonderful Forum has helped me very much on this quest so far. And I have a feeling these won't be the last questions from me.

Thanks !

-Gerry.

Hi Gerry and welcome to the RAW family.

1) I doubt you will need a SST. The opening is very generous and quite easy to single feed projectiles into the receiver. I'd suggest trying it as is before you buy a SST.

2) Due to the generously wide open breach area its quite easy to clean the barrel with a Patch Worm. I doubt you'd ever need to pull the barrel so use the rings of your choice.

3) RAW's as any unmoderated air rifle at this power level can be quite loud. IME with PB muzzle breaks is they direct a portion of expelled gasses back towards the shooter, at varying angles, so I would not want any sound coming back at me but YMMV?

4) No, just pre-drill a pilot hole for any threaded stud you plan to install. Since the LRT stock is laminated and you will be drilling between laminations, I'd use a generous sized pilot drill to minimize and wedging effect on the laminations by the screw threads. If you've ordered the RAW from Martin then perhaps ask them to drill and mount swivel studs for you and then the warranty would be on them instead of you possibly voiding the warranty by drill and mounting the stud yourself.
