Tuning RAW HM1000xLRT Pellet Proble

Hey Guys,

Recently purchased a RAW HM1000xLRT - Camo in .22 caliber.

The problem I'm having is the pellet probe has become dislodged from its guides (set-screws). When I try to tighten the black metal guide's two set-screws, they can only grab the probe on its larger diameter, rearward section - not the thinner probe tip. When the fatter part is secured, the Lever cannot be fully cocked forward because the probe end is too long?

Now, at this point, the barrel is NOT inserted too far back in the receiver, so that's not the problem.

The only thing I can think of, is the probe end (adjustable) needs to be retracted as its currently too long for complete Lever closure.

Has anybody else had this problem?

I hate to take almost the entire gun apart to pull out the probe so it can be screwed in and shortened!

- Lastly, would hate to grip the probe on the fat part only to retract the tip with a pair of vise grip pliers. I saw that a member had done that earlier and gouged the pellet probe in the process. Costing $2K, I want to take it easy on the gun if possible...

How do you add pics ???

You can block the breech with something like a pellet tin cover to help push it in while adding tension to the side lever closing it then screw the probe tight after the proboscis tongue is back in.

Edit screw the set screws not too tight on the outer probe retainer they are only to stop it from coming out and act as a block to the step down part of the probe since they changed the C Clip retainer to grubscrews!

Sorry going on Theoben Rapid info off the top off my head and checked my RAW just now yep they changed it.

Cause of this is probably one of the grubscrew that prevent the probe from coming out probably wasn't secured threaded in just enough at the factory. They are not supposed to be tight though. You can put nail polish on the threads to keep them from backing out. I wouldn't use locktite if you ever want to do a caliber swap (super easy BTW less than 5 minute job).

That was me that scratched the pellet probe a bit! Pissed me off but it’s barely noticeable after I rubbed it out. It’s an easy fix, you just have to loosen both of the set screws, there is one on each side. Then close the bolt so it seats correctly. Then tighten the grub screws down. You don’t want them tight, like O’Doyle said. Just tighten them down a bit and open and close the bolt to see how it feels. You want the grub screws to hold but not to add friction to the rear part of th bolt. If you still don’t understand what. we’re saying, call RAW. They will e-mail you a schematic that shows exactly what to do. 877-247-4867

Thanks Stoti,

I understand the probe should be held snugly by the grub screws, but in my case the probe loosely flops around ... unguided or backed by anything.

To explain how this came to be:

I had removed the stock, barrel and regulator from the gun. Thinking it still had air in the plenum, I pulled the trigger with the bolt in - a loud crack (report) was heard (why I pulled the trigger after turning off the safety ... beats the heck out of me).

Later, when I went to assemble the parts, I noticed a transfer port (TP) sleeve I had made (improving efficiency) blew out. When I went to install the barrel after making a new TP, I noticed the gun wouldn't cock correctly ... with the pellet probe hitting the barrel not allowing complete lever closure.

When I looked closely at the probe, it was very loosely hanging, not aligning with the bore?

I believe the brass TP hit the pellet probe upon firing, and become dislodged.

Sorry for the rambling, but that's how I got here 👅.

Well Guys,

Read the online article about changing out pellet probes, which was excellent. The only problem is, RAW no longer uses a spring behind the pellet probe to give it tension, which makes sure it's upright, in-line with the bore.

So the problem with my gun is again, the pellet probe is wobbly inside the lever and doesn't line up with the bore unless you re-align by hand? There is no back pressure to hold its larger base against the retaining set screws.

I talked to Cameron and he said there is no longer a spring behind the probe, and the probe should remain "true" with the bore unless bent. Well, my probe isn't bent, but flops around and hence cannot be aligned with the bore without adjusting every time.

Cameron suggested sending back it to RAW to fix ... which sucks as I just got the gun. The pellet probe design is not a good one, relative to the rest of the gun - fitting way to sloppy ... IMHO👎.

You don’t need to take the action out of the stock to access the probe, remove scope, undo the top 3 grubscrews that hold the barrel, pull the barrel out ( push the thimble out if it has one,) the the probe will slide out of the block through the barrel bore.

I had a springless probe here the other week, I thought it had fallen out while I wasn’t looking, I fitted a spare spring and it worked just fine.
