RAW buyers beware!

I ordered a RAW last week for my 75th birthday, and it would be the most expensive gun that I've bought so far. At $2k+ it represented what I thought would be my ultimate shooter, and I was really looking forward to getting it this week. I ordered a Athlon Midas Tac to go on it, and was ready to go when it arrived today via FedX. It came in 2 separate boxes, with the smaller one being the stock, which was wrapped in so much bubble wrap it took me 10 minutes to cut it out of it's wrapping. When I opened the big box, I was absolutely shocked at what I saw! The barrel had a huge black plastic moderator on it, and not the carbon fiber wrapped moderator I had ordered. This huge black plastic can looked like a cheap beer can covered in black, and was absolutely huge! The normal carbon wrapped moderator is hung low so that it won't show up on the scope, and this one isn't even close to that! I have several DonnieFL moderators and they look like a million bucks compared to what is on this gun now! In addition to this abortion of a plastic POS moderator on the barrel, the bottle has a huge AirForce decal on it. I'm not anit-AirForce, as I have 2 of their guns and like both of them jiust fine! On this RAW @ $2K+, it looks like doggy doo! I didn't buy an AirForce gun here, I bought a RAW at $2K+!

I'm sending it back to the dealer tomorrow, and it is going to cost me over well over $100 in shipping costs because they won't pay for shipping something that I didn't order!

Where are the pictures? Is it misrepresented according to not matching that dealer online pictures? If so I would request shipping return labels on their dime if it had been misrepresented and they blatantly ignored all your phone calls to complain about it as soon as you received it.

What did the dealer say when you called to complain prior to posting this? Inquiring minds surely want to know what their response was.

They were gonna improve on quieting the RAW down because they were too loud so it's expected to see a new bigger can at the end that's supposed to be quieter.

I can't take any pics as I've already repackaged it to go back to the dealer. The pics of the new guns are on the web now, but were not when I ordered the gun. You can go to RAW's site or any of the dealers and see the new gun with the big plastic can on the end of the barrel. The dealer didn't give me a hard time about returning the gun, and said he understood why I was disappointed, but they wouldn't begin to pay for the return shipping, which is going to cost me well in excess of $100 to return. Believe me, this was my birthday present after weeks of trying to decide what to get, and it was a terrific disappointment! I have an Air Arms XS510 SS in laminate that makes this gun look like a Walmart blue light special! AirForce has cheapened the product to the point where it's not worth anywhere near what they're asking for it, and I really like my 2 AirForce guns! I told the dealer that I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for this gun in it's current configuration!

I would keep it. It's too loud without a big fat can hanging on the end. First and only group shot that day not cherry picked just sized not weighed not even washed. Here's the group at 75 yards with one of my 25 caliber HM1000X. My 30 HM1000X is more accurate than this...

O'doyle, I really appreciate your opinion, but I'm nowhere near keeping this gun at this point! To begin with, they sold me something different than I ordered/paid for, and the gun looks really cheap with the plastic can and huge AirForce decal on the bottle. I didn't buy an AirForce gun, I already have 2 of them that I really enjoy, and with them branding the RAW as an AirForce gun it drops the value dramatically. I'm not a competition shooter, just an old man that really enjoys quality in a gun, and this isn't it! My AirArms, 2 Taipan Vets, and the FX Wildcat III sniper both run circles around this product as it sits now, and it's nowhere close to being worth $2k+ in my opinion!

I have a standard power .22 HM1000. It has the previous standard moderator, and I don't find it too loud at all. Sorry to hear of your disappointment. My dealings on 2 rifles has been directly with Martin, the maker. He is a gentleman and excellent builder, having been the last managing director of Theoben, the English RAW predecessor. If you call him, he will build what you want. He can be reached at his new business, Airguns-USA. I have no inside knowledge of his association with Air Force, but I have been concerned about it. My last understanding was, he is still building all the rifles in TN.

Hey Guys,

I'm the individual on the GTA who received a new RAW and was shocked by it: Below is my post on the GTA October 6th. The Moderator is made of thin aluminum.

Hey Guys,
F . . K, it figures ... Utah Air not only sent me the wrong caliber, but apparently RAW changed their stocks and moderators - for the cheaper.
No more metal adjustable butt plate, remember the HW98 change :p. Now a 2" diameter cigar for a moderator.

I finally decide to spend $2K on an airgun and I can't even get the pictured gun that I ordered .

I pounded off the original Moderator and made my own. Here is what it looks like now.

Spiral Groove...you must have bought the last Camo RAW that I had ordered and found out it had already been sold! I settled for the Tan (Buckskin) stock instead, and then got the plastic beer can and AirForce bottle to boot! I don't have the ability to change the barrel/moderator like you did, so I'm just sending it back and trying to let other buyers know that it's not the same gun that they're used to getting! I can't imagine that people are going to see this gun being worth the premium price that they've been able to get in the future!

Sorry Huckleberry,

I was very, very upset when I received mine too. The gun I received was not even pictured on any websites; they've have changed them now. Yeah, this is more like a $1,700 gun now. Luckily, I was able to make a new moderator for about $20 + my labor. I also made a SSG and now she gets close the 160+ shots with 18.13 JSB's or 32 FPE. I'm in the process of turning down the regulator to about 120/130 bar. I should receive the set-point gauge very soon.

The one thing that really makes the RAW shine, is their very simple to work on ... except for the pellet probe.
