RAW 30 cal swap to .25 Help/Advise

Hey James!

Congrats again. I Have been toying with idea of re-barreling my Crown or my RAW .25's as well. My conundrum is........ I haven't found a .25 slug that is as accurate as the JSB KH's yet. I have put the slug liner in the Crown the only thing it did help with was It will now shoot the KH MK1 and MKII's equally as well. So I am now seriously considering going down to .22. Bob_O, the boys from Africa and others are having great luck with slugs. Like you, I mainly plink but do hunt sometimes. I have kills with the RAW on a Jack at 155yards and the Crown at 146 with pellets. So that's my two cents buddy!

Dennis is yours a 30 also? I kinda like the suggestion from STO maybe run some home brewed bullets first. Them mold sure look they did a nice job. May not work for the guys that really reach out there but probably fine for me if the RAW likes them. Bb says not that bad to change cal. I think I would want to at least be a 25 cal.

Don't know if I did it the right way or not tried to give all y'all a + I think I will grab a mold and try the 30 for a little bit. I purchased a Raw with y'all s advice so I think I will continue with your tips. I started casting about a year ago when I got in to PCP,s for my QB and now for my 308 extreme I hope I can make them as nice as you guys. Worst case is I come back and bug you guys on the how to. With just now buying another rifle I can probably sneak a mold or 2 in the house better than the barrel and parts anyway. Know what I mean? Thanks again👍

jlacouturec The person I got this gun from has had Ken Hicks do some stuff on it already. Other members have also told me about Ken. With me being new to air gunning looks as if Ken is the man in the know. I think after seeing some of the pellets/bullets sent to me by STO and others I am going to try to pour some and maybe I will like the 30 after all. The whole purpose of buying it was to have a rifle with multiple shots on one fill, having a magazine, and not chewing threw a bunch of lead for a 3 of 4 hour shooting session with me and the kids. But all I have is big bores so my goal was nothing less than a 25 I like the Bang. I purchased a brand new Win mod 70 357 to do this so as not to offend well lets just say I should have been a member here and I would not have taken about 200.00 hit on the deal to get rid of it within a month or 2.

I thought I would get the 46 grn mold that STO AND shamu was talking about a try. $18.00 for a few hrs of plinking may start to hurt. I am fortunate enough to live were I can and do shoot for hrs at a time for a couple of days a week. I have been a powder burner for all my life till I got the PCP disease about a year ago. Thought if the gun would shoot these home brewed bullets at about 100 yds semi accurately I would be ok and maybe keep a couple of cans of JSB's on the side for hunting if I had to. I know all guns have a diff. flavor of bullet preferred but I like to just plink and a little pesting. Probably alot better gun than I need for this and I know some of you can take a rifle like this and make it do real long accurate shots but I like the heirloom quality and if me or my kids miss we can blame each other not the gun😄 part of the fun. I wanted the 25 because we shoot so much but the 30 cal mold is a game changer. Loren and shamu appear to have had good luck with them I don't know if they shoot RAW's or not.

Martin did the .25 Hot & Heavy (60 FPE) conversion to my HMX 1000 30. caliber. Ken Hicks referred me to him because he wasn’t doing these 18 months ago. I am sure that he too is now doing amazing work on them. I was initially encouraged and masterfully guided on this by on this Sean Haggerty. He is a forum member and has clear and helpful posts contained within The RAW Report thread in the General Airgunning Forum. Although the process of changing between calibers is mechanically simple, I rarely do it because I find the .25 preferable for most conditions. The gun has smoother shot cycle and still hits quite well at 100 yards.

My rifle is Pre Air Force and I understand that the newer rifles have modified internals. I am interested in learning if a .22 could work as well but suspect prohibitive internal adjustments to my RAW would need to be made.

Hope all this helps!

rock4gzus I talked to sarge/Bosk last night he said Ken turned it up at the RMAC this weekend for him and also installed a trigger. I think STO has thrown me into the right track for what I do. Most of you guys on here make shots with these rifles that are awesome indeed but me I just like to shoot about 100 yds or so. I think I will leave it as is and cast my own pellets if sto, shamu and loren don't block me for bugging them on casting tips.
