I’d like to open this thread to anyone and lets have a fun competition over the year, just bring a measuring tape with you and take a pic and submit here.

3. categories. (leader so far)

1 Longest rat of 2019 (L.Leon 15 inches)
2 Longest body of rat 2019 (Monkyshine 9.5 inches)
3 Fattest rat of 2019 (just lay the tape over and try and get the best pic you can and say measurement)

I got nothing yet, gonna get started in a few Weeks or a Month from now. Good luck guys!
 
Short tailed rats? That sure opens up the possibilities doesn’t it ? I’ve got an X son in law that goes about 295 . If I would take socaloldman’s methods I could push him to 350 easy. And believe me it sounds like a good plan to me.

Good plan, you should make sure you have a Depredation Document from your Daughter first.

First blood! And its a doozy, RWS super h-point, 550fps or so (for noise) out of the Boss with the LW barrel.

I decided to load up a pellet this am and have a look, sure enough this little prick is in the bird feeder. Wrecked him.

@Glem, I shot 6 rats last night, no images as it was dark and snowing at the dairy. I’ve seen some huge ones and will be posting up some pics soon. Just put a nice red hunting light on my rig was punishing the starlings last night. Next night out will make it a point to carry my camera and tape measure and specifically go after the rats.

Explain that top image. There is a whole bunch going on there...but....I see a motorcycle oil filter cover there at the top....haha please explain this contraption.

Lol, i boxed it with random metal stuff to keep the squirrels and Jay's from going in there and just spilling everything onto the ground. The metal is so they cant just chew it up.

But rats and songbirds can get in several places. I think the piece youre talking about is a BMW part its a block off plate for the rear of the cyl head of a 90's 3.5l.

I could see his eye or movement through the gap at the bottom and they feel "safe" in there.

@Glem, went to the dairy this evening and shot over a dozen rats. Not all carcasses were retrievable but I policed up these four. There are so many rats at this dairy and I'm just beginning to get to know the place. Also shot about 60-70 starlings. Shot with my .22 Compatto set at low power, shooting Crosman Premiers 14.3 gr. pellets. Scope at 5x and a pressure pad activated green light atop the scope.

This is a rat with a 9" body but he is a big stout rat, base of his tail is bigger than my thumb and I have large hands. The one next to him is dwarfed by him and it's 8" in body length. I pulled him and laid on old style concrete block for size. Biggest i have shot and I have shot a hundred. He was shot using a 50ft/lb .25 MK1 wildcat with 34gr. And nite site dark ops wolf.

I'll give you 9.5 inches I think we all can agree it's spine/head isn't straight. Added you to the first post leaderboard very nice work Monky!

Looks like 15 (or maybe 16?) inches total, longest I've seen this year. Added to leaderboard.(try and get the camera directly above the tape if you can). Let me know if it's 16 I'll change it.
